NATURE OF
MATHEMATICS
1. What are the new things that you learned about the nature of mathematics?

“We live in a universe of patterns”. As I read the book, I was impressed by how much
mathematics is a fundamental tool for understanding the universe and how it works. I
was able to learn how numbers can be used to describe patterns in nature, especially
the Fibonacci sequence, where each number is obtained by adding the previous
numbers together. This pattern can be seen in the head of a sunflower.

I also learned about complexity theory and chaos theory, which are ways of
understanding complex systems in nature, and how they can be described using
mathematical models. The book also talks about how snowflakes are formed through
the regular packing of tiny identical units.

The history of calculus was also discussed and how it was invented by Isaac Newton
to understand planetary motion. Calculus provides a way to describe the behavior of
objects in motion, such as the trajectory of a cannonball.

Patterns tell us a lot about our universe, how it operates and helps us better
understand the natural world. While numbers are certainly a part of mathematics, they
are not the only part. Mathematics is a way of thinking and a way of understanding
the world around us.

2. Which part of the video and/or article significantly changed your view about
mathematics?

The part that altered my perspective on mathematics was the realization that
discovering patterns everywhere, especially in nature, is truly amazing. This allows
me to gain valuable insights about the nature of mathematics and how those patterns
make up our universe.

Moreover, I really thought that mathematics was just about solving problems and
computations, however, it dives deeper than that, and the world and its connections
are much more complex. I’ve learned that in different fields of science, math is
present in all of them.

The power of mathematics makes me appreciate various fields that are connected to
it. I used to despise solving challenging equations or problems. However, the book
and videos enlightened me to different approaches to learning mathematics.
Mathematics expands our knowledge of what can be achieved, helping us to improve
critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Overall, mathematics can help us understand the world around us, and it can help us
solve problems in various fields. It is essential to study and understand mathematics,
as it is the foundation for many other subjects.
3. What is the most important contribution of mathematics in humankind?

Mathematics has made numerous important contributions to humankind, but from what I
have learned, I can say that Mathematics is like a key that helps us unlock the secrets of
nature and how it behaves. This understanding is crucial, as it's also deeply connected to all
the different areas of science.

Mathematics reveals the beauty and complexity of nature, painting a masterpiece that we're
constantly trying to understand.

The power of Mathematics has transformed our lives over the years, fueling technological
advancements through the discoveries and innovations of mathematicians and scientists.

Learning math is enlightening because it shows us that our curiosity and ideas are not
limited but with endless potential, embracing various perspectives and approaches to
problem-solving.

Among the important contributions of Mathematics is the discovery of the Calculus, which
allows us to understand and predict the behavior of the natural systems. It is a branch of
mathematics that deals with rates of change which has revolutionized our understanding of
various phenomena, making it a truly remarkable discovery.

Mathematics isn't just about numbers and equations; it's a powerful tool that unveils the
hidden secrets of nature. Imagine it like a key that opens the doors to understanding how
our world operates. This knowledge isn't isolated—it's the backbone of all sciences,
interconnected and vital. It unlocks ideas without any boundaries.

WRITE A- ONE PAGE ESSAY/SYNTHESIS PAPER FOCUSING ON THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS OF
MATHEMATICS: (A) MATHEMATICS HELPS ORGANIZE PATTERNS AND REGULARITIES IN THE WORLD.
(B) MATHEMATICS HELPS PREDICT THE BEHAVIOR OF NATURE AND PHENOMENA IN THE WORLD.
(C) MATHEMATICS HELPS CONTROL NATURE AND OCCURRENCES IN THE WORLD FOR OUR OWN
ENDS.

Mathematics helps in understanding patterns and regularities in the world by providing a formal
system of thought for recognizing, classifying, and exploiting patterns. It allows people who
have analyzed such patterns to express them in terms of mathematical rules. For example, by
studying the weights of molecules and their products or ingredients, we can describe them using
mathematical formulas.

Mathematics is used to organize patterns and regularities, as well as irregularities, to help us

control weather and epidemics, provide tools for calculations, and provide new questions to
think about. In short, it is an essential tool for understanding and describing the patterns and
regularities that exist in the world around us.

Mathematics plays a crucial role in predicting the behavior of nature and phenomena in the
world. For instance, mathematical models of atmosphere and ocean are being used to forecast
weather based on the information of the current weather. These models based on physical
principle can be used to generate short term forecasts to long term climate prediction. Through
these models, there were improvements that allowed us to gather significant facts in cyclone
tracks and air quality forecasts.

On the other hand, scientists are using mathematical methods to better understand volcanoes,
including how the magma shifts and flows beneath the earth to foretell when eruptions may
occur. Data calculations and assimilations that incorporate new measurements and dynamic
models are also being used to predict natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and
even tornadoes and volcanic eruptions.

Mathematics can help control nature and occurrences in the world for our own ends in various
ways. For instance, some natural phenomena behave mathematically, and understanding these
mathematical patterns can help us predict and control them. Mathematics can also be used to
explain how something recurs in nature, such as the movement of the sun or the growth of
plants.

Additionally, mathematics can be used to estimate death tolls from natural disasters and
conflicts, predict profits, and even help create vaccines for pandemics like the current COVID-
19 crisis. By using mathematics to understand and control natural phenomena, we can better
prepare for the future and improve our quality of life.

Mathematics helps us make sense of patterns and regularities in the world, allowing us to
describe them using rules and formulas. It's a crucial tool in predicting natural phenomena,
helping us prepare and mitigate their impact. By using math, we can both understand and
influence nature, making predictions and controlling outcomes for the betterment of society. It’s
a vital tool that allows us to navigate the complexities of our world and improve our quality of
life.
