ACTION LEARNING ASSIGNMENT ROLES & RESPONSIBILTIES

Carefully Read Notes Below for ALL PARTICIPANTS
A. PROBLEM PRESENTERS – The success of this exercise is highly dependent on the
problem presenter coming to the session with a real and meaningful problem that
genuinely needs to be either better understood or resolved. The quality of your problem
should NOT be a puzzle that can be solves through any one or more steps. It must be a
challenge that could have a wide range of possible approaches and solutions.
Make certain you think carefully about the challenge you present. It should be a genuine REAL
Problem you are experiencing. It could be an academic challenge; a challenge at your workplace
(if you are employed), however, I would strongly recommend for this academic exercise not to
bring in problems of a psychological or personal family matter.
ONLY the PROBLEM PRESENTER Needs to Answer These Questions:
a. What action will I take as a result of this session?
b. Who else needs to know about my action learning session experience?
c. On a scale of 1-5 rank and name the question askers in your group
d. Answer, “What did I learn that I can apply after the session?” (Response can be about solving
problems/challenges from the session; or what learning as a Problem Presenter I can take away
from participating in this session).

Submit in 12-point font, type written, word file to your group’s Coach-Facilitator immediately
following (as soon as possible) after your session.

B. QUESTION ASKERS/ENABLERS The success of this exercise is highly dependent on

the Question-Askers asking ONLY OPEN-ENDED INSIGHTFUL QUESTIONS and
refraining from interjecting their opinions re the challenge presented unless specifically
asked to do so. The definition of ‘Insightful Questions’ is clearly explained within the
Action Learning Script Document. Please read the Action Learning Script ahead of the
session to ensure you are familiar with the session process.

ONLY the QUESTION ASKERS/ENABLERS Need to Answer These Questions:

Immediately upon conclusion of the session please submit in 12-point font, type written, work
file to your group’s Coach Facilitator a short/brief report that addresses the following questions:
a. Cite one example of a Question you asked. Also state the names of the other question askers in
your group and cite at least one key question from the other two Question-Asker teammates that
that contributed toward the success of the session.
b. On a scale of 1-5 rank the ‘Coach Facilitator’ on keeping to the AL Session Script and being
strict ensuring only ‘to the point open ended questions’ were asked and submit as part of your
report.
c. Answer, “What did I learn that I can apply after the session?” (Response can be about solving
problems/challenges from the session; or what learning as a Question Asker I can take away
from participating in this session).
C. COACH FACILITATORS – The success of this exercise is highly dependent on the
Coach-Facilitator religiously, stringently, in a disciplined fashion sticking to the
action-learning script. The quality of your session is also dependent on your
following and facilitating the process on a timely basis adhering to only allowing
‘open-ended and ensuring no ‘long-winded’ statements that preface a proposed
question are tolerated.
ONLY the COACH-FACILITATOR Needs to ANSWER These Questions:
a. What key challenge(s) did you face as a facilitator of this process?
b. On a scale of 1-10 rank the Quality of the Problem Presenters Challenge
c. On a scale of 1-10 rank for each Question-Asker (name & rank) the Quality of the
questions asked.
d. Answer, “What did I learn that I can apply after the session?” (Response can be about
solving problems/challenges from the session; or your personal take away from
participating in this session).
It will be the Coach-Facilitator’s responsibility to ensure all participants submit in 12-point
font, type written, word file report (as described above in this Action Learning Assignment
Roles and Responsibilities document) to you, [Coach-Facilitator], immediately following (as
soon as possible) after your session.

Please forward all five reports in one file folder/e-mail to the attention of Professor Ira L.
Cohen’s University of Windsor e-mail address.ira.cohen@uwindsor.ca no later than Friday,
September 22, 2023, 11:59 p.m.
