Mount Kenya Muslims decry

discrimination in appointments
M
uslim leaders in Mount Kenya
region have expressed concern
over alleged religious discrimi-
nation by the county governments.
In their grievances, the leaders led by
the Coordinator Supreme Council of
Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) in Mt. Kenya
Region-Al Hajj Sheikh Shaaban Bakari
Gakere said that they were disappointed
that no Muslim was shortlisted nor ap-
pointed by the Mt Kenya region gover-
nors as County Executive Committee
(CEC) members yet they are the major
stakeholders in the counties.
Speaking to the Friday Bulletin, Sheikh
Bakari accused Governors in the re-
gion for being intolerant and sidelining
the Muslims in the county development
programmes and discriminating against
members of the community.
The coordinator said that at the level of
policy and decision-making, there is a
visible absence of Muslim representa-
tion as most of the county governments
in the region have sidelined Muslims in
appointment and employment opportuni-
ties.
“The under-representation of Muslims
in county Government has profoundly
impacted the community’s involvement
in decision making processes. None of
the counties in Mt. Kenya region has
nominated minority Muslim women or men
in their county assemblies to meet the one
third requirement in the constitution and the
inclusion of minority communities. No Muslim
was nominated in the executive arm of the
counties either CECs or chief office,” Sheikh
Bakari said.
In his remarks, patron of Maragua Muslim
community, Muhammad Maluki, said that
the County Government Act in its section 36
obliges the county governor when nominat-
ing members of the county executive com-
mittee to ensure that the composition of the
committee reflects the com-munity and cul-
tural diversity of the county.

Winners of Jamia Boys Quran Competition bag Cash prizes

The Jamia Mosque Nairobi was the focal
point during the 12th Annual Boys Quran
Competition that closed last Friday.
The three-day competition, which drew a
large audience, was organized by Jamia
Mosque Committee Nairobi in collabora-
tion with the Cultural and Religious At-
taché of the Embassy of the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia in Kenya, and it brought to-
gether participants from madrasas and in-
stitutions across Nairobi and its environs
who demonstrated their skills in memori-
zation of the Noble Quran.
The competition featured four categories
of five Ajzaa (chapter), Ten Ajzaa, fifteen
Ajzaa and memorization of the whole
Qur'an and brought together 53 madaaris.
A total of 144 contestants competed in
the preliminary zonal competitions, with
the top three advancing to the final, which
was held at the Jamia Mosque in Nairobi.

Adams Masjid Iftar event raises Sh. 30 Million
The newest ultra-modern Adams Masjid
along Ngong Road-Nairobi, on Saturday
held an Iftar fundraising event to complete
its construction and service the pending
construction bills.
The event was attended by Muslim leaders,
including prominent scholars, politicians
and business community from Nairobi and
beyond, who came together to raise funds
for the Masjid's completion.
The Masjid's design and architecture are
a blend of traditional Islamic and modern
styles, making it a unique and striking land-
mark in Nairobi’s Ngong Road area.
Speaking during the event, Cabinet Secre-
tary for Defence Aden Duale, who was the
Chief Guest, commended the Adams Mas-
jid management for their efforts in building
such a magnificent structure and encour-
aged Muslims to continue supporting their
communities by contributing to such noble
causes.
“Acts of Charity, especially over the Holy
month of Ramadhan, are the greatest man-
ifestation of our oneness. I want to thank

splendid talent, Hanif took home Ksh 153,
000 cash prize in the competition.
In the second position was Ashkir Omar
Ashkir from Markaz At- Taysir who took
home Ksh 136,000 while Yunus Masoud
Juma from Markaz Safinah took the third
position and he was awarded Ksh 119,000.
In the 15 Ajzaa category saw Abdulrahman
Musa Abdullahi from Ar Rihaab Islamic
Centre taking the top spot while Zubeir Ir-
shad Sahal from Musab Educational centre
coming second with Najib Muhammad from
Markazul Falah taking the third position.
The top performer Abdulrahman Musa Ab-
dullahi received a Sh119, 000 cash prize
while Zubeir Irshad Sahal who emerged in
the second position took home a cash prize
of Sh 102,000 and Najib Muhammad was
awarded a cash prize of Sh.85,000.
First position in Ten Ajzaa category was
won by Muadh Abdulrahman Abdille from
Ma’had Zabur who was awarded Ksh
85,000. Ibrahim Abdulrahman from Zaid
Bin Khattab took position two and won Ksh
68,000 while Abdulmajid Abdirazaq Siyad
from Markaz Musab Bin Umeir took position
three and was awarded Ksh 61,000.
In the five chapter category top position
went to Mu’tasim Jimale Mahmud from
Mus’ab Education Center who was closely
followed by Muhammad Ahmed Abdirazak
from Muadh Bin Jabal. Muhammad Mah-
mud Ahmed from Ma’had Zabur took posi-
tion three. The boys took home cash prizes
of Sh45, 000, Ksh 35, 000 and Ksh 23, 000
respectively.
In the madrasa category, Musab Education-
al Centre emerged the winning institution
and received a cash award of Ksh 50,000.
The second position went to Ma’had Zabur
which received cash prize of Ksh 40,000
while Zaid Bin Khattab was ranked position

three and awarded Ksh 30,000 respectively.
In his address, Saudi Arabia deputy am-
bassador to Kenya Nasser bin Muham-
mad Al-Faridi said that the competition by
Jamia Mosque Nairobi is a reflection of the
original approach on which Saudi Arabia
was founded and that the government of
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is committed to
motivate and strengthen maintenance of
the tradition of memorizing the Holy-Quran
among Muslims.
He went on to say that caring for the Holy
Qur'an and teaching future generations to
memorize, recite, interpret, and work by it
are good things, and he praised the con-
testants' spirit of honorable competition in
all branches of the competition.
Deputy Ambassador also commended the
leadership of Jamia Mosque Nairobi for
their contributions in Da’wah and other
spiritual and humanitarian activities and
pledged that the Embassy will work closely
with Jamia Mosque Nairobi to support Is-
lamic projects in the country.
In his remarks Jamia Mosque Committee
Deputy Chairman Abdullatif Essajee urged
Muslims to embrace better understanding
of teachings of the Noble Qur’an and also
implement its true teachings in their lives.
Essajee expressed his gratitude to the Sau-
di Arabian embassy and the Africa Muslim
Agency for their continued support towards
the competition which in the last 12 years
has featured among the coveted annual ac-
tivities of Jamia Mosque Nairobi.

“I cannot express how appreciative I am to
each and every one of you for the support
you have provided in order for the Masjid to
be finished. Since the onset of the mosque's
construction, I have been praying that the
Almighty will reward each and every one of
you for the efforts that you have put forth,”
he said.
He also thanked the Chief Guest and all the
attendees for their generous contributions
towards the completion of the Masjid.
The Masjid's completion is a significant
milestone for the Muslim community in Nai-
robi, as it provides a state-of-the-art facil-
ity for worship, education, and community
activities.
The Masjid's modern design and facili-
ties are expected to attract Muslims along
Ngong Road, Kilimani, Lavington, Kibra
and the surrounding community to the Mas-
jid, fostering a sense of unity and solidarity
among Muslims in the region.
Masjid Adams is expected to serve as a hub
for the Muslim community in Nairobi, pro-
viding a modern and well-equipped facility
for worship and community activities.
The Adams Masjid can accommodate over
5000 worshipers, with separate floors for
both men and women. It also boasts of a
modern Ghusul, a conference hall, Madar-
asa classes for children, modern abolition
blocks, and offices for Masjid management.

Taqwa – Living the main purpose of Ramadhan

Taqwa is a major purpose for the month of
Ramadhan. The people of taqwa are those
who do the things that they are command-
ed and avoid the things which Allah has
made prohibitive.
And evidently, to reach a state of taqwa
requires vigilance, it requires patience and
sincerity.
The verse is pertaining to fasting I found in
a single set of verses in chapter 2 starting
at verse 183:
O you who have believed, decreed upon
you is fasting as it was decreed upon those
before you that you may become righteous.
(Surah Al Baqarah 2:183)
A Collective Act of Worship
Allah is telling us that fasting has been
made obligatory and then Allah tells us that
just as it was prescribed for those before
us.
We often get asked this question in Rama-
dhan, “how’s the fast going for us?” And if
we gave ourselves a moment to think about
it, we see that Allah Most High has made
the fast inside the month of Ramadhan
easy for us because we know that there is
a collective spirit to fasting; we know that
we’re not alone in this act.
That’s what this verse is telling us that we
are part of a sacred collective act which in-
cludes those who came before us.
We’re told that this is the way of Abraham,
Moses, Jesus… This is the way of all who
went before.
Fasting is the ultimate unbroken chain of
sacred chain of practice, and so the collec-
tive spirit of knowing that this is a collec-
tive obligation eases that obligation for us,
even in relation to all the other sacred acts
which Allah has prescribed for us such as
the prayer, Hajj…
Every Act of Worship is a Gateway to
Allah
Allah says:
If you come walking to Me, I should
come running to you.
He facilitates everything for us. It’s just up
to us to pay attention. And that’s the key
here: Attention.
People are in a state of heedlessness,
whereas we need to be in a state of atten-
tiveness and attentive to Allah’s blessings.
Now, ultimately every act of worship is
something which should be taking us a
step closer to Allah. It’s not the physical act
itself which is being sought from us. If that
were the case, then just the mere fact of
not eating or drinking would be enough.
Fasting is something more than just stay-
ing hungry, there are steps that we have
to go through. Acts of worship stand as the
gateways to getting closer to Allah; to ar-
rive at these lofty stations, take the prayer
for instance:
Prayer keeps away from abominations.
The physical act of prayer is there as a
gateway to get us to somewhere else.
Reaching a Lofty Station
And that’s the case with fasting. We’re fast-

refers as taqwa.
It escapes trans-
lation; it’s some-
thing that can be
explained as a
concept.
We can under-
stand this verse
in three steps:
•There are those
who listen to the words of Allah. This first
group of people is enough for them that Al-
lah is calling them and telling them to fast,
that’s it.
• The second group are those who perhaps
need something a bit more and they are re-
minded that they are a pert of a collective
act. It’s that little bit more.
• The third group of people who look for
reasons.
Imam Ar-Razi tells us the meaning of the
verse:
“Fasting has been prescribed for you so
that you can be of the people of taqwa that
Allah has praised in His book.”
Isn’t not interesting that the hopeful result
by the end of Ramadhan is to be God con-
scious? Since Ramadhan is a time to be
conscious of our food and our body, we’re
telling our bodies that, “I’m in control of you,
I’m not going to give in to you this month.”
This is the month when the heart is very
much in charge. Ramadhan is a time to
engage the vertical plane; it’s a time that
we seek nourishment for our souls from be-
yond the material world.
A Step Forward
Ramadhan comes and goes. If we have
not at the very least moved a step closer to
taqwa, what was Ramadhan for, as Imam
Al-Ghazali says?
At night buffet, all types of food that we
wouldn’t ordinarily even have throughout
the year, and our tables are full of these
delights in the month of Ramadhan. Of
course, that doesn’t mean that we can’t en-
joy the blessings that Allah has given us,
but if that’s all it becomes, then we missed
the purpose of what Ramadhan is.
Taqwa is mentioned in the Quran alongside
some 15 different virtues. For instance,
we’re told that one who has taqwa has
guidance; we’re told that who has taqwa is
protected by Allah. If we become conscious
of Allah, He takes over our affairs. That’s
the exact description of a wali.
Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah
there will be no fear concerning them, nor
will they grieve (Surah Yunus 10:62)
When people in the high state of God con-
sciousness, they only see beauty of things.
We’re told that those who have taqwa, this
is what engenders love of Allah; Allah will
make a way out for them from any anxiety,
from any trouble in ways that we can’t even

imagine:
And whoever is conscious of Allah – He will
make for him a way out. (Surah At-Talaq
65:2)
And He says in the same chapter that He
has made for everything an appointed
time, nothing goes beyond this stated time.
Nothing will go beyond the moment that Al-
lah written for that thing.
Remember the Purpose
Ramadhan really bring us to this state of
taqwa. When we’re fasting, we feel hungry,
we’re consciously trying to make an effort
to be in charge of ourselves so that by the
end of the month, we have learnt how to be
in charge of ourselves throughout the year.
So you see how the month is a microcosm
in preparing us for the entire year; that
taqwa in this month, even though it might
be a consciousness of avoiding food and
drink, it’s preparing us to be conscious of
Allah throughout the year.
It’s amazing how Allah gives us this oppor-
tunity to draw closer to Him.
Imam Ar-Razi said that one of the rational
proofs that he gives for fasting being ob-
ligatory is that anything which prevents one
from sinning, it must be understood as an
obligation, just like the prayer, it prevents
us from sinning if it’s done properly.
If fasting and praying don’t prevent us from
sin, then it can only mean that not being
done properly. The same what Allah tells
us in the Quran:
We have not sent down to you the Qur’an
that you be distressed (Surah Taha 20:2)
Allah says He sent the Quran to make us
happy; if it’s making us unhappy, you’re not
reading it right.
The same applies for the Seerah, it’s about
meanings, at each and every instance in
the seerah, we should pause and reflect:
What does it mean that the Prophet Mu-
hammad lost his father before he even
came to this world?
What does it mean that he lost his mother
when he was six years old?
What does it mean when he lost his grand-
father when he was a child, that he lost his
uncle and wife in the same year…?
Read the Quran with reflection, read the
Seerah with reflection, pause and take
meaning.

In Ramadhan- it is a time for fasting, not feasting

The month of Ramadhan is again here
with us. For the more than 1.6 billion global
Muslim community, the fasting period which
occurs in the ninth month of the Islamic cal-
endar is a period of spiritual rejuvenation,
purification of the soul and penitence.
While the overriding feature of this month
is fasting-abstinence from eating, drinking,
smoking and conjugal relations, the believ-
ers are also expected to super recharge
their faith by increasing acts of worship
such as additional prayers, charity and en-
hancing on family ties.
Other than the acts of worship, Ramadhan
is the perfect opportunity to embrace good
eating habits and maintain good health.
But while for many Muslims the focus dur-
ing this period is nurturing their faith, others
turn this month into a period of relentless
feasting which demeans the spirit of Rama-
dhan.
In many homes as dusk appears, platefuls
of elaborate foods colour the dinner area
turning it into an arena for gluttonous be-
haviours, wastefulness and unhealthy eat-
ing habits.
For some, the advent of iftar (breaking the
fast) is a time to ‘revenge’ for the hunger
experienced during the day and the eat-
ing habits are characterised by overeating
meant to compensate for the lost meals
during the day-time hours.
Further, iftar is often characterized by un-

icacies, fatty foods and processed drinks
that are harmful to the body. Contrary to
this, the Sunnah (tradition) of Prophet Mu-
hammad (peace be upon him) was to break
his fasts with dates followed by a light meal.
For the hours spent preparing the elabo-
rate meals, women end up to be among
the biggest losers of Ramadhan as they
have little time to reap the blessing of this
month. As sundown beckons, exhaustion
is evident for the womenfolk who cannot
not evenin attend the special Taraweeh
nightly prayers which are among the main
features of this blessed month.
The elaborate meals lead to wastefulness
of food which is a common feature in many
homes during the month of Ramadhan.
This is anti thesis to the Qur’anic teach-
ing which emphasises on moderation at
the time of eating. “Eat of the good things
We have provided for your sustenance, but
commit no excess therein.” (Taha 20:81)
From a health point of view, fasting has
been proved to be a prescription of good
health as it promotes the wellbeing of a
person. Among the health benefits, the fast
helps to cleanse the digestive system and
removes toxins from the body. If a fasting
person resorts to overeating at the time of
breaking the fast, this offsets the physi-
cal benefits of fasting resulting in indiges-
tion, stomach upsets, heartburn, bloating,
belching and nausea which are common
during the month of Ramadhan.

Because of the absence of meals during
the day, Ramadhan is supposed to reduce
on the household food expenses by at least
half but in some households, the budget for
food during this month alone supersedes
that of the other eleven months combined.
Islam emphasizes on moderation and this
is also true when it comes to food con-
sumption. Prophet Muhammad peace be
upon him in one of his tradition said, “A
person fills no vessel worse than his stom-
ach. A few morsels should be enough for
him to preserve his strength. If he must fill
it, then he should allow a third for his food,
a third for his drink and leave a third empty
for easy breathing.” (Tirmidhi)
The obsession of food witnessed during the
month, unfortunately fuels misconception
among many non-Muslims that Ramadhan
is a period of feasting rather than fasting.
Especially at this time when the effects of
the drought are still with us, Ramadhan
should be a period to do away with iftar par-
ties which promote unhealthy eating habits
and wastefulness and instead be a time to
exert more efforts to ensure that those star-
ing at hunger have at least a meal before
them at the time of breaking the fast.

3 Tips to get over Ramadhan wall

Several years ago, I trained for and com-
pleted a marathon, a road race 26.2 miles
(40 kilometers) in length.
During my training, several coaches
warned me about hitting the “wall,” the
point in the race where one’s mind and
body simply start to shut down. While each
runner encounter this “wall” at a different
time, it is most common to hit it somewhere
after the half-way mark.
By this time, one is physically and emotion-
ally tired, the end is still far from sight, and
just putting one foot in front of the other can
seem almost impossible.
The “wall” phenomenon is both physical
and psychological, and can apply to many
aspects of our lives.
How many of us have burnt out in the mid-
dle of the school year, or half-way through
working on a big project? How often does
the urge to quit something, or at least to
slack off a bit, become overwhelming?
Many Muslims began the month eager to
read Quran, to stand in prayer, to perfect
their fasting by exhibiting patience and
perseverance, to give generously to those
in need and purify themselves of bad hab-
its. However, often around this time in the
month, many of us begin to feel physically
and emotionally drained—we may be hit-
ting the Ramadhan “wall.”
Even though we are getting close to the
final ten nights of Ramadhan, which bring
with them an abundance of additional
blessings and virtues, it is possible that
our focus and concentration have already
begun to weaken. How can we make sure
that we don't let these priceless moments
of the holy month of Ramadhan pass us
by?
Sometimes we have to train ourselves to
overcome the negative thoughts that can
prevent us from finishing at our best. Here
are three strategies to get over the wall,
and finish the month spiritually stronger
than we began it.
Renew Our Intentions
Islam teaches us that actions are accord-
ing to their intentions. When we get tired,
sometimes we start going through the mo-
tions and leave our intentions on the side.
We forget to bring to our acts of worship
that internal dimension that gives them
meaning.
By renewing our intentions, whether it be
in our fasting, our prayers, or recitation
of Quran, or anything else, we help bring
back the spiritual energy into acts that can
otherwise become routine. Everything we
do in Islam is meant to reflect back on the
state of our hearts and increase our con-
nectedness to Allah. Renewing our inten-
tions helps make this a reality.
Focus on Priorities
Life doesn’t stop during Ramadhan—work
and school schedules often continue at the
same pace as before the month began.
Some of us have increased family com-
mitments this month, while others may get

preoccupied with plans for Eid. It can be
easy to get distracted.
Days and nights start to slip away and in-
stead of feeling like we’re advancing spir-
itually, we may feel like we’ve already fallen

How Zakah purifies you, deepens and increases your faith

Zakat is such a major act that Allah Al-
mighty The Wise, The Acquainted made it
an actual pillar of Islam.
This should lead us to ponder on its mean-
ing, significance and implications.
The Meaning and Implications of Zakah
Zakat in Arabic means Al Barakah wa Al
Nama’ (blessing and prosperity). Just like
plants grow and prosper when they’re
planted, our faith grows and prospers when
we give mindfully, humbly and obediently
for the sake of Allah.
The Zakat (or almsgiving) is considered the
third pillar of Islam. The root word of Zakat
also means purification. Zakat is a means
of purification of one’s material wealth and
soul as well.
It is a reminder that the person’s wealth is a
blessing from Allah. It is a blessing that one
ought to share with others. This helps hum-
ble the person and increases the sense of
unity with members of the community. It is
a selfless act that one performs in pursuit
of His Creator’s pleasure and in service to
His creation.
It promotes social justice as the rich always
have an obligation towards the poor.
It is a purification of the soul from indulging
in heedlessness, selfishness, egoism, self-
love, greed and stinginess.
Zakat is a Testimony
When you give Zakat, in essence it is a tes-
timony that:
• You believe in the unseen and in the re-
wards of Allah
• You trust that Allah is The Provider Ar-
Razaq
• You acknowledge that all rizq (suste-
nance) come from and belong to Allah
• Your faith is more powerful than your fear
of loss
• You believe in what the Messenger of
Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Wealth
does not diminish by giving Sadaqah (char-
ity) […].” [Reported by Muslim].
• You show Allah sincere and pure faith
in Him and pursuit of His Pleasure. As He
said: “(As for the one) who gives from his
wealth for the increase in self-purification,
And has in his mind no favor from anyone
for which a reward is expected in return,
But only seeking the pleasure of his Lord,
Most High. He surely soon will be pleased.”
(Surah Al-Layl 92: 18-21)
• You elevate over the self to attend to the
needs of others mindfully and practically.
• You’re conscious of the afterlife and the
rewards and judgment of the hereafter.
Repeated mention in the Quran
Allah has ordained zakah on the commu-
nity of believers as repeatedly mentioned
in the Quran.
He said:
“And establish prayer and give zakah, and
whatever good you put forward for your-
selves – you will find it with Allah. Indeed,
Allah of what you do, is Seeing.” (Surah Al-
Baqarah 2: 110)
“… those who believe and do righteous

deeds and establish prayer and give zakah
will have their reward with their Lord, and
there will be no fear concerning them, nor
will they grieve.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 277)
“But those firm in knowledge among them
and the believers believe in what has been
revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what
was revealed before you. And the estab-
lishers of prayer [especially] and the givers
of zakah and the believers in Allah and the
Last Day – those We will give a great re-
ward.” (Surah An-Nisa 4: 162)
What Prophets said on Zakah
It is also the path of the Prophets who
deeply believe in Allah. As Jesus (peace
be upon him) says:
“And He has made me blessed wherever I
am and has enjoined upon me prayer and
zakah as long as I remain alive” (Surah
Maryam 19:31)
And Ishmael (peace be upon him) said:
“…mention in the Book, Ishmael. Indeed,
he was true to his promise, and he was a
messenger and a prophet. And he used to
enjoin on his people prayer and zakah and
was to his Lord pleasing.” (Surah Maryam
19: 54-55)
Abu Bakr As-Siddique and Zakah War
Abu Bakr AsSiddique (may Allah be
pleased with Him), the first Caliph, was a
wealthy man. However, he has repeatedly
given out his entire wealth for the sake of
Allah. He was not concerned about making
himself richer, he was giving out consist-
ently from whatever Allah gives him for the
sake of Allah, His deen and the welfare of
the people.
4 Ways to feed your soul this Ramadhan

Allah has created human beings with two
distinct parts.
There is our body, which is created from
the earth, and the ruh (soul) that is a spe-
cial creation inside us that Allah put in us
through an angel when we were in our
mother’s wombs.
The body being made from the elements
of the earth needs to be satisfied with the
elements of this earth- food, drink, intimacy
etc.
The soul as being something that is a spe-
cific creation sent by Allah is also satisfied
and fed through something that Allah spe-
cifically sent- the Quran. And there is no
better time to feed the soul than in Rama-
dhan. As the saying goes, “We starve our
bodies so that we may feed our souls.”
In a broad sense, the food for the soul is
Dhikr, the remembrance of Allah. That
which enriches and gives life to our soul
is the constant remembrance of Allah. The
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
said:
“The similitude of someone who remem-
bers his Lord and someone who does not
is like that of the living and the dead.” (Al-
Bukhari and Muslim)
He also mentioned that the best of deeds is
to make dhikr. And along with that, dhikr is
good for us as well!

Narrated Zaid bin Aslam:
“I heard ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab saying: ‘We
were ordered by the Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) to give in charity, and
that coincided with a time in which I had
some wealth, so I said, “Today I will beat
Abu Bakr, if ever I beat him.”‘ So I came
with half of my wealth, and the Messenger
of Allah (Peace be upon him) said: “What
did you leave for your family?” I said: “The
like of it.” And Abu Bakr came with every-
thing he had, so he said: “O Abu Bakr! What
did you leave for your family?” He said: “I
left Allah and His Messenger for them.” I
said: ‘[By Allah] I will never be able to beat
him to something.'” [Jami’ at-Tirmidhi]
This is his pure unwavering faith in Allah.
Many people talk about the rights of the
poor, but Abu Bakr AsSiddique was ready
to go to war for it. When a fraction of peo-
ple in the time of his Caliphate decided not
to pay zakat, Abu Bakr fought them and
this was a clear fight to preserve human
rights against those who wanted to violate
and abuse the rights of other people to re-
ceive zakat.
This was a unique point in history where a
leader went to war to defend the rights of
the poor.
Let’s think about that the next time we han-
dle our Zakat casually or carelessly, and
remember that giving out for the sake of
Allah is a purification of our souls and af-
firmation of our faith.
And Allah knows best.

Truly in the remembrance of Allah do hearts
find rest. (Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:28)
So, how do we make dhikr in a way that
feeds our souls and enriches it this Rama-
dhan?
We will suggest four out of many!
Be Aware!
The word dhikr means “remembrance”.
The first and most important part of re-
membrance is being conscious of Allah all
throughout the day.
Ramadhan already helps that as we con-
sciously stay away from food and drink
all throughout the day. We are more con-
scious about our speech, more conscious
about doing good deeds and charity.
Among the easiest ways of always remem-
bering Allah is to keep Him in our mind all
the time. Before we take every step, every
decision, every moment we think about Al-
lah, and do that which He wants.
When good happens we remember Him
and say Alhamdulillah, when startled or
amazed we say Subhan Allah, whenever
we sin we immediately say Astaghfirullah,
whenever we are tested we seek His help
and so on. Throughout the day make it a
habit to remember Allah all the time. It will
take time, but it will arrive Insha’Allah.

Muslims in Eldoret benefit from Huda Foundation Iftar
In the spirit of the month of Ramadhan, a
total of 370 Muslim residents in Eldoret on
Tuesday benefited from foodstuffs dona-
tion initiated by Huda Foundation.
Through support from Muslims and local
Businessmen, the foundation handed over
food packages that included rice, maize,
beans, and wheat flour to the Muslim wom-
en and less fortunate members of society
to put a smile on their faces during this
fasting period.
Speaking during the distribution exer-
cise, the Al-Huda Foundation Board chair,
Sheikh Abubakar Bini called on Muslims
across the country to support Muslim Or-
ganizations involved in welfare and chari-
table activities to enable them to achieve
their objectives and extend assistance to
the Muslim ummah.
Sheikh Bini said that the financial con-
straints and high cost of basic commodities
brought about by economic hardship has
affected the foundation's operations, limit-
ing its support and assistance to the local
Muslims.

24, is the 2023 Quran recitation champion
from Kenya after he emerged sixth in the
26th edition of International Quran Compe-
tition held in Dubai.
Abdulaleem represented Kenya in the an-
nual event after he emerged the overall
winner in the Daar-Ul-Quran Kareem com-
petition hosted at Masjid Issa Bin Maryam
in Baricho within Kirinyaga County in Janu-
ary this year.
For his memorization skills of the whole
Qur’an as well as the science of recitation
(Tajweed), he was awarded cash prize of
more than Ksh 2 million by Vice-President
and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler
of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
“I am grateful that I finished among the
top ten competitors in Quran recitation in
Dubai from a pool of competitors across
the world,” Abdulaleem told The Friday
Bulletin.
Saleh Ahmed of Bangladesh came in first
place while Abbas Hadi Umar from Ethio-
pia came in second, followed by Khalid
Sulaiman Saleem Al Barakani from Saudi
Arabia in third.
In the top ten list were Nooruddin (Cam-
eroon), Hadi Maulana (Indonesia), Abdul
Alim Abdurrahim Mohammed Haji (Kenya),
Mohammed Haj Asad (Syria), Moham-
med Abdu Ahmed Qasim (Yemen), Abdul
Aziz bin Noor Nasran (Brunei) and Hamza
Mustaq (Morocco).
The competition held at the Culture and
Science Symposium Hall in al-Mamzar
City of Dubai, brought together thousands
of students from 65 countries to test their
prowess in recitation and memorization of

Zamzam centre benefit from Khalifa Bin Jasim donations

In a heartwarming display of generosity
in the spirit of ongoing month of Ramad-
han, Muslim students of Khalifa Bin Jasim
School on Sunday visited Zamzam Or-
phanage centre and Madrassa in Huruma
within Nairobi.
Through contribution from Muslim stu-
dents, Islamic Society of the school do-
nated foodstuffs that included wheat flour,
Rice, Sugar, Cooking oil, packets of salt
and fruits juice to orphans and less fortu-
nate members of society to put a smile on
their faces.
Speaking on Sunday during the hand-
ing over ceremony, Deputy Chairman of
Khalifa bin Jasim Islamic Society Khan
Sumama called on Muslim students dur-
ing this month of Ramadhan to embrace
the culture of charity and give support to
orphans and the needy in the society to
improve on their lives and welfare.
“In a time where the world is facing numer-
ous challenges, acts of kindness and gen-
erosity is encouraged. Islam encourages
Muslims to help each other as it will create
a sense of love. One of the ways for us
to implement this concept of helping one
another is through the act of giving alms,”
he said.
Khan stressed that it was imperative for
Muslim students to utilize their God given
opportunities to take care and support the
welfare of orphans and the needy as part
of preparation for future religious and so-
cial responsibilities as well as way of giv-
ing back to the community.

are those who learn the Quran and teach
it. (Al-Bukhari)
In numerous places in the Quran itself, Al-
lah calls the Quran “dhikr”. Because recita-
tion of the Quran, pondering over its mean-
ings, reflecting upon its verses and obeying
its commands is the ultimate remembrance
of Allah.
Read more and more of the Quran in Ram-
adhan, listen to more tafsir lectures and
ponder over its meanings. The Quran is the
best food for the soul, as it was revealed by
Allah for the soul itself!
Prayer
When Moses (peace be upon him) spoke to
Allah the first time, in the mountain, among
the earliest commands that Allah gave to
Him is this:
Establish prayer for my remembrance (Su-
rah Taha 20:14)
Part of remembering Allah is praying. Pray-
ing the five times, along with all the Sunnah,
and any additional prayers such as Duha
or Tahajjud is one of the ways of growing
spiritually and feeding the soul. Because
prayer connects us to Allah. Whenever the
Prophet felt anxious he would go pray.
The Daily Remembrances
There are many of the daily adhkar that
are narrated from the Prophet Muhammad
(peace be upon him). The du’as help us in
remembering Allah all the time.
When we go to the toilet, eat, go to sleep,
or even when having marital relations there
are du’as. It is to ensure that no matter

what situation we might be in, we will al-
ways remember Allah.
There are many times to start remember-
ing Allah. So, I will suggest a small regi-
men:
1. Start by doing the adhkar after prayer.
2. When doing it regular, add in the adhkar
for going to sleep.
3. Add in the adhkar of the morning and

Burned Masjidul Aqsa Kibra to be reconstructed
An initiative aimed at fundraising to help
rebuild part of Masjidul Aqsa in Kibra that
was on Monday last week razed down by
fire has been launched.
The mosque located along Karanja Road
was set ablaze by a group of goons fol-
lowing a day long demonstrations in Nai-
robi. Several stalls near the mosque and
church were also razed down in the Mon-
day night arson attacks.
Speaking to The Friday Bulletin, Rajab
Abdallah called upon donors and well-
wishers to come forward and support the
project to enable the local Muslims under-

Garissa County Governor, Nathif Jama
has announced the re-introduction of the
Ugatuzi na Kazi initiative meant to as-
sist women, youth, and people with dis-
abilities in starting enterprises and finding

Kwale Youths urged to em-
brace peace, shun violence
Youths in Kwale have been asked to em-
brace peace and unity for sustainable de-
velopment amid countrywide protests that
has been witnessed in the country.
The call was made by Kwale County Gov-
ernor, Fatuma Achani who stated that only
a peaceful environment could ensure real
growth and socio-economic prosperity.
“Peace, unity, and coexistence is neces-
sary for any meaningful development,
chaos halts socio-economic progress
making it a difficult task for any benefi-
cial activity to be done. Do not allow self-
ish politicians to use you to sow discord
and commit acts of violence in the name
of their grievances they have with their
counterparts,” she said.

According to Moody's Report, demand for Shariah-compliant fi-
nancing will continue to rise in 2023, supported by strong economic
growth amid robust oil prices and ambitious development agendas in
Saudi Arabia and other core markets. Moody's also expects sukuk is-
suance to average between $170-$175 billion in 2023, supported by
financing needs from Malaysian Indonesian sovereigns, and resilient
activity on the bankingand corporate side.
While Islamic finance industry is still held back by structural weak-
nesses, including the complexity inherent to transactions and the
correlation of performance with oil prices given the concentration in
commodities-exporting countries. We see opportunities in the align-
ment of certain Islamic financial products and environmental, social
and governance (ESG) factors.We expect to see a higher volume of
