1. Why did Dr. Jose Rizal rise to the top among our Filipino heroes?
- Dr. Jose Rizal is one of the Philippines' most commonly known Filipino heroes. He
rose to the top among the rest because he was known for his intelligence, courage,
and dedication to the country which caused the Philippine Independence. He was
known for fighting for our freedom for not using weapons – but with his works. He
silently fought for our country’s freedom hearing the cries of our countrymen. He was
known for fighting with his pen and words, rather than a sword.

2. Do you think that the recognition given to Dr. Jose Rizal as our national hero based on
heroism criteria, was duly supported by a governmental proclamation for such
recognition?
- Yes, it was given recognition by the Philippine government. The Philippine
government officially declared Dr. Jose Rizal as the National Hero of the Philippines
in December 1898 shortly after the Philippine Revolution. He was recognized
because of his dedication to our country, and how he died in the process to defend
our motherland. The proclamation recognized Rizal’s sacrifices, his advocacies for
reforms, his works and writings, and of course his ultimate sacrifice for the country
which solidified Dr. Jose Rizal’s status as a national hero.
