PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

INTRODUCTION

This pandemic has affected thousands of peoples who

are became sick due to the spread of this virus. Coronavirus

disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-

CoV-2 virus this disease can instantly kill6+11 humans by having

a high fever, chest pain, aches and pains and other symptoms.

This pandemic was giving people around the world a hard time on

how people will overcome this crisis having this pandemic is

causing are mental health, ruined our goal, upended our job roles

affected financial markets, and market risk is one of the most

heavily impacted, because of the pandemic, the famine has

worsened, and hardships especially in financial terms.

After almost 2 years, Philippine schools have started

to reopen their campuses and schools to students. Going back to

school, so spending money for education again, many have not yet

recovered from the hardships brought by the pandemic. Senior high

school students are facing financial problems too. Most recently

the past 2-3 years academic year has caused difficulties in

families and has quickly caused poverty, financial problems

facing students because they do not have enough money for their

day-to-day expenses at school. The academic performance involves

factors such as the intellectual level, personality, motivation,

skills, interests, study habits, self-esteem or the teacher-

student relationship. Financial problem is a situation where

money worries are causing stress. However, student has been

facing financial problem lately and this problem had become a

major problem for student. Financial problem faced by student are

known as they do not have enough money for their daily expenses,

where money worries is causing them to stress.

A student financial position will affect their

commitment in learning which will affect their academic

performance, students are expected to spend much of their time on

their education and need to graduate with good academic results.

students often struggle to make ends meet and afford their

education, and many students suffer from low income, low

financial literacy, compulsive spending tendencies, and high debt

levels. Moreover, due to inflation and trade war, it had made

most of the country facing recession and increases the cases of

student facing financial problem.

Therefore, the researchers conducted this research to

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study focuses mainly on the General Academic Strand students

of General Tinio National High School who are facing financial

problem, school year 22-23.

This research will not include other strands, junior high school

students, grade 11 students, on other schools and baranggay. This

research will not also include academic burnout in students.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

One of the major reasons of financial troubles is

lack of financial education, which can lead to missed

opportunities, money losses, or unsuccessful investments. The

majority of pupils find it difficult to differentiate between

needs and wants. Due to this, they are unable to pay for their

essential expenses, such as those associated with books, tuition,

and other expenses, and instead must spend all of their money on

wants. Inadequate financial support will make it difficult for

pupils to improve their academic performance because education is

an expensive social service. Students' academic success is

significantly influenced by their financial situation. Financial

issues are a severe problem that must be resolved because they

can lead to a variety of. Others had to deal with health issues

that had an impact on their financial situations. Academic

performance can be significantly impacted by financial stress,

especially for people from lower socioeconomic origins. This may

show out in a variety of ways, such as struggling to meet the

demanding academic requirements or peculiar psychological traits

of particular individuals and their immediate psychological

settings.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

a) Financial

The word "financial" comes from Middle English

"finaunce," which is derived from Anglo-Norman, Middle French

"finance," which comes from the verb finer, which means "to pay

ransom," and from the noun fin, which means "end," which comes

from the Latin word finis. Financial also denotes having to do

with money. A subject or circumstance can also be a problem if it

is unwanted or detrimental and needs to be addressed and

resolved.

b) Problem

In this context, "proballein" really suggests the idea

of throwing something, as in throwing forth a question or

throwing forth a situation. The word "problem" comes from the

Greek word "proballein," where "pro" means "before" and "ballein"

means "to throw."

c) Academic performance
The degree to which a student, instructor, or

institution has reached their short- or long-term educational

goals is referred to as academic achievement or academic

performance. Academic achievement is the attainment of

educational standards such secondary school diplomas and

bachelor's degrees.

d) Financial Problem

Financial problem is also called financial difficulties.

Financial difficulties occur when you are unable to pay your

payments on time or purchase basic necessities.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDY

Many students struggle to support themselves and pay

for their education, and many of them have low incomes, poor

financial literacy, compulsive spending habits, and significant

debt loads. has a big impact on the resources that are available

to the kids. Due to this lack of resources, many students find it

difficult to achieve the same levels of academic success as

students who do not live in poverty. Income, source of income,

and mother's educational background are all factors that affect

students' academic performance. Financial stress among students

is linked to greater levels of self-reported mental health needs

and issues adjusting to college (Hyun, Quinn, Madon, & Lustig,

2006). (Meehan & Negy, 2003),

People need to have a foundational understanding of

finance in order to function in today's society. The interest on

credit cards and mortgages, insurance, as well as future savings

and investments, should all be understood by people. Financial

literacy is the ability to handle one's personal finances

successfully, according to Garman & Forgue in 2000. Knowledge of

personal finance and the economy demonstrates a higher capacity

to handle the family's financial resources (Godwin, 1994). With

the right information, people are more likely to attain their

financial goals. Personal financial ignorance restricts personal

financial management and may result in monetary issues, which

lowers financial well-being.

Many Americans, according to recent surveys, are financially

illiterate.

Everyone has financial difficulties occasionally, but

this is especially true for individuals who originate from

disadvantaged or low-income homes. Asri, Abu Bakar, Laili, and

Saad (2017) stated that while students do not have a commitment

to paying monthly debt installments like other households, their

status as students requires them to pay their education costs,

rent, and other essentials, by which they received the financial

support from loans, scholarships, or their families.

Additionally, students from disadvantaged or low-income homes may

perform worse academically. Numerous studies from the past have

been conducted to demonstrate a link between financial

difficulties and students' performance in Senior High School

courses.
The money or social position of the parents has a

beneficial impact on the academic achievement of the pupils in a

test, claim Olufemioladebinu, Adediran, and Oyediran (2018).

This is also corroborated by a prior study by Olufemioladebinu et

al. (2018), which found that seniors from lower socioeconomic

family status typically perform worse academically than seniors

from higher socioeconomic family status.

Nnamani, Dikko, and Kinta (2014) state that financial

issues among Senior High School students have a significant

impact on the students' poor academic performance, which

ultimately results in a substandard quality of education in many

ways. As indicated in this early literature, financial

difficulties cause financial stress, which in turn influences

students' poor academic performance. According to a Widener

University study published in 2017, financial stress has a

continuous negative impact on students' academic performance.

A study conducted by Asri et al. (2017) found that a

variety of factors affect students' academic performance.

However, family socioeconomic variables are important since they

involve financial management, which will either inspire or

demotivate Senior High children to excel academically.

Widener (2017) noted that there are two ways in which a

student's academic performance could be impacted by a financial

issue, including health issues. Widener (2017) went on to say

that having money issues can affect one's health, such as

anxiousness, which can then result in bad habits like alcoholism

or unrestrained buying, which causes students to lose

concentration on their studies. Students are more exposed and

vulnerable to health issues when they struggle financially to

keep up with the high cost of living. Therefore, the question of

whether students with financial difficulties can take the

pressure of managing their daily lives and finances arises.

Asri et al. (2017) noted that bad financial management

could make someone unable to control the stress, which impacts

their daily lives, including their health by making them

depressed and poorly physically. This is further supported by a

study conducted by Asri et al. (2017), which found that one of

the reasons why students experience stress is because of their

financial difficulties. These issues cause the students to

experience anxiety and dizziness, which will ultimately lead to

tension. In other words, having financial issues causes a variety

of issues that eventually have an impact on a student's ability

to succeed academically in senior high. Widener (2017) asserts

that in order to overcome yet another manner that financial

issues may impact students' academic performance.

Asri et al. (2017) claim that kids from low

socioeconomic status households frequently face challenges such

having to work to support their families and being unable to

afford learning materials, which would ultimately affect their

academic performance. According to Asri et al. (2017), stated

that due to financial problems, some students tend to be quiet,

unsocialized with their friends and less interaction in class

thus leads to a decrease in their academic performance due to

their lack of interaction in acquiring knowledge.

Perman (2019), a CNBC journalist, claimed that having a

part-time job during the study had a greater impact on low-income

students. She estimated that 6 million students had part-time

jobs, the majority of whom were women from the Philippines and

other countries. By balancing work and school, some students

struggle to overcome and manage their financial issues. Due to

the need to balance employment and school, this has an impact on

how well students succeed academically in Senior High's General

Academic Strands. Furthermore, according to Perman (2019), 59% of

students from disadvantaged or low-income families worked 15

hours or more a week and scored a C or lower in their coursework.

This has an impact on the students' schedules.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHOD

This section will cover a conceptual sketch of the

methods of research design, selection criteria and participants,

research locale, and data collecting and analysis in order to

detail the broad view of the research method to be employed.

Additionally, the function of the researcher, the process of

validation, and the underlying ethical guidelines will be

covered.

Research Design

In addition to using a case study of quantitative

research design, this descriptive study also examines the impact

of financial difficulties on students' academic performance. The

questionnaire will be distributed, collected and analyzed by the

researchers. The goal of this research strategy is to generate

and establish a thorough grasp of a problem in the setting of

actual life.

Selection Criteria and Participants

Under one particular category—senior high school students

—the participants will be chosen at random. The only school to be

used in the information-gathering process shall be General Tinio

National High School. each and every pupil who attends from the

General Academic Strand segment.

Research Site

The study will take place at General Tinio, Nueva

Ecija, with General Tinio National High School - Senior High

School as the only participating institution.

Data Collection and Analysis

The study has modified James' suggested method for

undertaking error analysis (1998). First, four questions will be

asked of the study participants. The inaccuracies will be

presented and debated after the data has been analyzed. Only this

kind of mistakes will be addressed because the study's main focus

is on the consequences of financial difficulties on pupils. The

two basic methods of gathering data are recorded interviews and

communicate testing. Data will be gathered through interview

guides and document analyses in order to provide the desired

conclusions or outcomes. The data will be examined based on the

errors that occur most frequently, and causes will be discovered

by assessing the learners' exposed contextual backgrounds.
