Curriculum Philosophy and Vision

Lordswood Boys’ School has a clear vision: to offer an ambitious and enriching curriculum. We
commit to providing fair and inclusive education for all, underpinned by the value of equity and the
basic right to Literacy. No student will be left behind. Through a robust programme of Literacy
development, students are well placed to thrive in a society where successful social cohesion and
integration can determine social mobility and status. We are proud of the diversity in our school and
understand how important our role is in ensuring that our students, upon leaving Lordswood Boys’
School at the end of their studies, will go on to not only improve their own life chances, but also
become part of an improving picture in the communities in which they live. In pursuing equity in
education in school and raising aspiration for all, we aim to build resilience and confidence in our
learners. We ask not whether our students can meet the expectations of the world, but whether the
world can meet the expectations of our students.

We aim for 100% of our students to be in education or training at the end of their GCSE studies and
for them to be ambitious in their Post-16 choices. Through a tailored programme of careers
guidance, we want our students to be able to understand the rapidly changing labour market and be
adaptable and confident when considering their next steps. In a world where the automation of jobs
is more prevalent than ever before, society places great demands on students. They must be, not
only technologically secure, but globally aware in their understanding of the risks and benefits of
engaging with technology so that they are able to not just cope in an ever-changing world, but thrive
and succeed.

Our students will demonstrate their commitment and love for learning through above national
average attendance rates and achieving outstanding outcomes. They will work in a school which
prioritises learning but also recognises and values the benefits of a unique and diverse enrichment
programme; a programme which will possibly be offering experiences to some students for the very
first time. Our expectations for outstanding attitudes to learning will be well-received by students
and they will engage with all adults in school in a positive and enthusiastic way. There will be a
shared understanding among all staff of the value that the education we provide is adding value to
the lives of our students and we will advocate for the students at all times. All stakeholders will
understand their role and this will facilitate effective working relationships among all. We expect all
of our teachers to teach outstanding lessons and that non-teaching support staff operate at
consistently high levels of professionalism to ensure that the student experience in school is
outstanding. In turn, we recognise the value of discussion and reflection and we encourage all
stakeholders to be open in their communication (including students, parents, and employees) so
that we can create a positive and purposeful environment in which our students will learn and
succeed. We are fully committed to acknowledging and celebrating success and have in place a
generous programme to reward both students and staff and ensure that motivation and
engagement levels remain high.

Our continued success will be secured through an ambitious and engaging curriculum; a curriculum
which delivers not only outstanding outcomes, but also meaningful student experiences. We will
continue to evaluate the student experience through a collaborative and collegiate approach. We
will ensure that our curriculum meets the needs of our students and is one which provides students
with the necessary skills and knowledge they need to be good and global citizens.
