DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH III

Objective: At the end of the lesson, 80% of the pupils should be able to:

a. identify the antonyms;


b. appreciate the importance of antonym words (traits/character) in our lives.

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, 80% of the pupils should be able to:

c. appreciate the importance of antonym words (traits/character) in our lives.

Materials: Pictures, activity sheets, charts, real object.

A. Preparation:
Rules to follow:

1. Listen when others are talking.


2. Follow directions.
3. Sit + think + enjoy = LEARN

B. REVIEW:
What was our lesson yesterday?
Adjective – word that describes noun or a pronoun.

Engage the pupils to join a simple contest (2 GROUPS)


The contest about giving words/sentence that will describe some objects.

Objects:
Round ball Old woman

Elephant (big, huge) Sick boy

C. Motivation: Story: SUNDAY PICNIC


Today is Sunday. Jack and Emma go for a picnic with mom and dad.
Jack is wearing new T-shirt but old shorts.
Emma’s new dress has red ribbons on front and blue ribbons on back.
Mom is carrying one big basket. Emma is carrying a small basket.
Dad and Mom are making sandwiches. Dad says, “It is difficult.” Mom says, “It is easy.”
The basket is full. Everyone eats tasty sandwiches. Now the basket is empty.
Picnic is over. Jack is happy. But Emma is sad.
“We will come back again next Sunday.” Said Mom.
“Yes, it is fun”, said Emma.
Which basket is empty?

Let us read the following short sentences.

1. The old woman is eating her breakfast.

3. The boy is sick.

4. The boys run fast.

5. The floor is wet.

This time, replace the underlined words with the following words.

D. DISCUSSIONS:
When we use these words, the meaning of the sentence is changed. These words mean the opposite of
the underlined words. They are called antonyms.

ANTONYMS – are words that have opposite meanings.

Old and young fat and thin sick and healthy fast and slow

Antonyms:
1. Young – old 6. Inside - outside
2. Day – night 7. Up - down
3. Near – far 8. Few - many
4. Dry – wet 9. Black - white
5. Long – short 10.happy - sad

Look at the story Sunday picnic, can you name the words that are opposite?
NEW – OLD, FRONT – BACK, BIG – SMALL, DIFFICULT – EASY, FULL – EMPTY, HAPPY - SAD

E. Application:
Activity 1 – Activity Sheets (Small group) (Differentiated Activity)
Group the children by line. Give each group an activity sheet. Have them answer in three to five minutes, then
tell them to post their work on the board for sharing. Have them observe the standards for the group work.
Give different activity sheet to those children who are non – readers.
Standards are:

C. Keep your work and work place clean.

If you are one of the victims of Marawi crisis what will you do?

If someone hurt you are you willing to forgive ? and why? In what way?
Educate the pupils using the following words mentioned above, relate it to what happened in Marawi.
War or conflict is brought about by HATRED, FEAR, PRIDE, SELFISHNESS and VIOLENCE.
Without Love there is Hatred, without Courage there is Fear, without Humility there is Pride, without Generosity
there is Selfishness and without Peace there is Violence.
(Elaborate in a subtle way why MARAWI CRISIS happened)
