A database engineer creates and manages databases for a company or organization. This involves
designing and building databases to suit a purpose. The database engineer must also setup and
configure the database. The database engineer must make sure that the databases are secure and that
they function properly.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be

• Responsible for execution of day to day tasks related to monitoring and managing relational
database management systems
• Performs root cause analysis on trended database incidents, performance tuning and major
outages up through the application stack
• Develops automation that can trigger off a variety of industry standard monitoring tools to
resolve common issues in the environment or maintain operating levels
• Contributes to the design of scaling the management of an enterprise database environment
including high availability deployment, pluggable databases, encryption and more
• Specifies proper types of files organization, indexing methods, and security procedures
• Advises project teams on the design of moderately complex databases
• Defines specialized aspects of user’s data base administration documentation
• Develops backup and archival policies and procedures
• Configures storage systems software to meet requirements
• Implements software solutions for performance enhancement, operator interface, and increased
user capability
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

• 7+ years’ experience as DBA

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,Information Systems, or equivalent degree
• Strong working knowledge of relational database management systems especially Postgres
and MySQL
• Strong working knowledge of AWS RDS and Aurora Technologies
• Familiarity with the functionality of Disaster Recovery
• Strong problem-solving ability
