COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

1. COUNTABLE NOUNS
 Là những danh từ chỉ người, sự vật,..có thể đếm được. EX: apple, cat, dog
 N đếm được có thể dùng ở hình thức số nhiều hoặc số ít. Ex: a dog or two
dogs; an apple or three apples
 Ko thể dùng N đếm được số ít một mình. Cần phải có a/an/ the/ his…. Ex: a
cat; a tomato
 Trước N đếm được số nhiều có thể dùng some/ many/ a few/ a few of/ a
number of
EX: some apples; a few students; many houses
 Any: dùng ở thể nghi vấn: there aren’t any seats
2. Uncontable nouns
 Là những danh từ chỉ sự vật, hiện tượng,… ko thể đếm được. EX: water, air
 N ko đếm được ko có hình thức số nhiều và ko dùng a/an trước chúng
 Trước N ko đếm được có thể dùng some/ much/ a little/ a piece of/ a bottle
of
Ex: some sugar; a bottle of water
 Một số N ko đếm được: accomodation, furniture, scenery, advice,
information, traffic, baggage, luggage, travel, behaviour, permission,
weather, chaos, progress, work, food, meat, rice, salt, music, tennis, money,
oil, courage, wine, …
 Any: there isn’t any sugar
3. Questions

In questions we use a/an, any or how many with countable nouns.

Is there an email address to write to?
Are there any chairs?
How many chairs are there?
And we use any or how much with uncountable nouns.
Is there any sugar?
How much orange juice is there?
But when we are offering something or asking for something, we normally
use some.
Do you want some chocolate?
Can we have some more chairs, please?
