INFORMATION FOR SAFE HANDLING

 APPEARANCE & ODOUR

 Black liquid, rotten egg odour

 STORAGE
 Do not permit contact with acidic materials
 Vessels which have contained black liquor should be checked for hydrogen sulfide before entering

 SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES

IF SPILL OR LEAK OCCURS, IMMEDIATELY CONSULT MILL ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL DEPARTMENT
 Never neutralize spill with acid or divert to acid containing sewer
 Contact with acids can result in release of potentially lethal concentrations of hydrogen sulfide gas
 Ventilate spill area
 Spills will make floors very slippery

 WASTE DISPOSAL
 Dilute and flush to an approved treatment system as per mill requirements

PERSONNEL PROTECTION
 Wear chemical worker's goggles and rubber gloves
 Other protective equipment such as aprons, boots, face shields or rubber suits may be needed when handling large
amounts of this material
 Eyewash stations and safety showers should be readily accessible near use areas
