Weekly Updates: October 23rd, 2023

The IT PTO Newsletter is distributed Sunday evenings or Monday mornings each week.
We do occasionally make mistakes or information comes to us after the newsletter goes
out, so please check the home page of indiantrailpto.org for the most up to date
information and links.

LAST CALL: PTO Fall Food Pantry Drive

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE: Moraine Township Food Pantry Food Drive!

Moraine Township administers funds to provide responsive, efficient and compassionate

services and support for residents in need.

Boxes of cereal, Snacks (Granola Bars, Pretzels, Nuts etc.) and Instant Rice can be
dropped off in a marked bin in the vestibule by the Indian Trail front office.

No time to shop and deliver? CONTRIBUTE HERE and PTO volunteers will bulk shop
and deliver on your behalf.

LAST DAY TO CONTRIBUTE IS OCT 25TH!

OCT. 26th IS PICTURE DAY!

Your student should have brought home a form, but in case you didn't get the picture day
info don't sweat it. We've got you covered. You can find the picture form here.

Volunteer Opportunities
OCT. 26th GREENHOUSE - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: October is the time where our
greenhouse and outdoor garden needs some extra TLC. The cool weather weeds have
sprouted, the beds need to be prepped for the winter, and the greenhouse beds need to
be maintained for the students.

SIGN UP HERE to help for an hour on October 26th.

DECORATE THE SCHOOL ENTRANCE FOR HALLOWEEN - VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED: Sign up to decorate the outside of IT @ Elm Place for Halloween on October
30th! We will have supplies ready, but if you have a specific decoration in mind you are
welcome to bring it, provided it is appropriate for an elementary school setting.

SIGN UP HERE to help on October 30th.

Email Stacey Kolthammer if you have any ideas or questions at

indiantrailpto@gmail.com.

STAFF DINNERS FOR CONFERENCES - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are looking

for volunteers to help pick-up, deliver, and clean-up dinners for the IT Staff during Parent-
Teacher Conferences on November 20 and 21. These dinners are a small way we can
help the staff during these long days during conferences.

SIGN UP HERE to volunteer for one day or both.

Email our Hospitality Director Reva Busby with any questions at reva.busby@gmail.com.

Staff Appreciation Update

This month, the PTO provided gifts to celebrate the school maintenance staff, our 8
Indian trail bus drivers, Sydnee McDermott (Vice Principal), and Tony Candela (Principal)
as part of the annual district-wide recognition days.

We also celebrated Tony’s newest addition to his family with an Indian trail mini tiger
onesie and baby books.

Pancake Day Committee Needs You!

Calling all volunteers for Pancake Day 2024! Although the event isn't until February
(final date TBD), we need to start planning and will be holding our first "kick-off" meeting
on Wednesday, October 25th at noon at Central Cafe in Highland Park.

Please consider joining the committee for our annual fundraiser filled with games, prizes
and of course pancakes! Express specific interest or find what speaks to you as we plan.

JOIN THE COMMITTEE HERE!

Come help us keep the tradition going by planning this memorable student, staff and
family fun event! Please reach out to Lauren Samlan for more information.

Help Indian Trail Reach Its Annual

Blessings In A Backpack Goal

Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide

food on the weekends for school-aged children across America who might otherwise go
hungry by providing weekend bags of food to children who qualify for the Federal Free or
Reduced Meal Program every Friday of the school year (38-weeks).

In the winter of 2013, our Highland Park chapter of Blessings in a Backpack began
providing hunger-free weekends to 50 children in Highland Park and Highwood. Due to
the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of community members, the program has
expanded to feed over 175 children every week, including several at Indian Trail!

As a PTO, we try to raise funds to cover the costs for providing the bags for the children
at our school. Many of you donated at the beginning of the year - thank you! If you
haven't had a chance to donate yet there is still time.

DONATE HERE to help Indian Trail reach its $5,700 annual goal to assist students in
need.

If you would like more information on the program, or other ways to get involved, please
reach out to Emily Ferriman.

Parenting Is Hard: Need Help?

District 112 offers resources for your family through ParentGuidance.org.

Find parent guidance and coaching, on-demand courses and you can even ask a
therapist for help. This is a professional service paid for by NSSD112 and is available in
both English and Spanish.

Families can receive help from licensed clinical therapists, psychologists, and
psychiatrists with all personal information held in confidence in accordance with HIPAA
protections.

Only D112 know how frequently this resource is used, and no personal information will
be attached. They will use this data to decide whether to invest again or embed this
service into future budgets. Recordings of workshops shared through Parent Square will
stay up all year.

Visit parentguidance.org to get started.
