4.TYPE LEVER

5.CARRIAGE RETURN LEVER

-The metal bar to the left side of a typewriter. It returns the carriage to the starting position of a
new line.

6.RIBBON REVERSE BUTTON

direction of travel of the ribbon.

14PAPER FINGER
-Paper fingers allow the user to roll in paper and start typing, without having to worry about
tucking anything in. The downside to this, is sometimes the page bows in the middle, creating a
megaphonic shape that amplified the sound of the keystrokes, and the sound of slapping paper.

15RIBBON SPOOL

-RIBBON SPOOL/SPINDLE: Inked ribbons are wound around a spool and placed on two spindles.
Most typewriters have a combination black/red ribbon, but not all. The spindles are able to move in
either direction so that once you get to the end of your spool, you flip a lever and the spools will reverse
directions.
