ROBOTS IN A
VĂN AN
NUTSHELL

TEAM FTC® 21300

OUR TEAM
Background
Robots in a Nutshell Team is founded in July 2022
by 5 students from Chu Van An K113 Physics
Specialized Class, after participating in Vietnam
Robotics Challenge 2022 season.

We has taken time connecting with FTC® Ink and

Metal 5773, FTC® Artemis 18715 and FRC®
GreenBlitz 4590. Thanks to their training lessons,
members from Robots in a Nutshell had a chance to
learn and be inspired in programming, engineering and
team management, also, they have received valuable
experience from successful start-ups, which nurtures an
idea to start up the first FTC® center in their school and
in Vietnam.

Through tournaments, we have also worked with many

Vietnam teams: FRC® GreenAms Robotics 6520,
Team Vietnam FIRST® Global, etc, which gained
us valuable experiences and relationships on the way of
living out our mission.

1
Current Status
The new 2023 – 2024 season is going to be the first year
Robots in a Nutshell Team has attended FIRST® Tech
Challenge with not only students from Chu Van An High
School but also from other schools. Since most of us have
never attempted any FIRST® competition, we have
received a lot of wonderful training lessons from FTC®
Ink and Metal 5773, FTC® Artemis 18715 that
help us making an effort on the first try at FTC®.

Robots in a Nutshell Team is doing our best to plan out

our first robot modeling idea to compete in the regional
FTC®, while trying to become an impressive, potential
rookie team.

2
Future Plan
For the next season, we have decided on a few specific
goals and plans:
To maintain the relationship with all of the sponsors, while
establishing relationships with new organizations. We can
achieve this by continually promoting our sponsors in
outreach events to build up a beneficial relationship.
We also set long term goals for outreach events,
including:
RIAN Tech Challenge – a competition for high
school students in Hanoi
RIAN Course – a course which teaches primary
and secondary student to learn programming.
With the next 3 years, we plan on establishing a FRC®
team in Vietnam, along side with FRC® GreenAms
Robotics 6520 to participate in FIRST® Robotics
Competition.

Our Logo
Why do we choose phoenix? We believe that phoenix
symbolizes light, wisdom and reborn. With us, it’s hope,
experience and resilience. In Western culture, the
phoenix is the sacred jade – an immortal being reborn
from the ashes. In Vietnamese culture, it brings luck
and success. We want to give viewers an impression
when using the phoenix as the logo, moreover, to
express RIAN’s spirit – always burned and shine like a
phoenix. We want RIAN to get higher by phoenix wings,
achieve what we are aiming to achieve and show the
world what we can do.

4
vision
Robots in a Nutshell (RIAN) – by Chu Van An-
ers, for Vietnamese’s youth
As the first FTC® team in Vietnam, we aim to:
Make FIRST® popular and accessible to every student
in Vietnam.
Inspire the foundation of more robotics teams in
Vietnam.
Keep contact with Ink and Metal 5773 and Artemis
18715, and make connection with more global teams.
Create a new way of learning STEM through Robotics,
promote self-learning subjects and soft skills that are
not taught at class such as coding, pitching ideas or
presentation skills.

5
tournaments
Vietnam Robotics Challenge
Vietnam Robotics Challenge (VRC) is an national
robotics tournament, organized annually by FPT
University and Maker Viet, for high school students
from all over Vietnam. VRC creates a playing field in
design and build robots, which is also a place for
students to learn, compete and cultivate knowledge and
passion about robotics.

6
FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®) is a competition
organized by FIRST®, along with other contests like
FIRST® Lego League, FIRST® Global Challenge, or
FIRST® Robotics Competition – world's largest
robotics competitions for high school students.
FTC® teaches students how to think like a real engineer.
Teams design, build, and code robots to compete in an
alliance format against other teams. Moreover, FTC®
also took students closer to a real "technological" world,
where professional advisors volunteer time and talent to
guide teams.

FIRST® scale (data from 2021):

Worldwide: FTC® 2021 season:

679.000+ students
67.000+ teams
49.200+ students
45.000+ robot were
5.172 teams
built
180 countries
320.000+ coaches and
volunteers
