PERFORMANCE TASK #7

During pregnancy, physiologic and psychological changes occur:

1. State the importance of providing pregnant women information about these normal changes.
- When a woman is pregnant, many physiologic and psychological changes could take place. Changes
in this regard could be mental, emotional, or physical. Hormones may be the root of these
alterations; as a result, your body may also undergo hormonal changes. These hormonal changes
may also affect your emotions, your physical appearance, and your ability to control your thoughts.

2. What should be your priority in providing your health teachings with regards to these changes during
pregnancy?
- In order to protect herself and the baby, the mother should always take care of herself and the child.
She should avoid strain and overexertion and should instead take as much time as possible to relax.
All of these changes are normal for mothers like her, so she shouldn't let her emotions get the better
of her or overthink them. If she ever finds it difficult to control her emotions, she should ask for
support from her partner as well as her close family and friends because they are the ones who can
help her clear her mind of all the unfavorable thoughts.

3. What is the role of the partner of a pregnant woman in coping with these changes?
- They should be the ones who support the mother because being pregnant causes many changes. They
should be aware of all the changes and act as their partner's support system.

PERFORMANCE TASK #8

A research study on Women and Their Partners' Perceptions of the Key Roles of the Labor and Delivery Nurse,
identified key roles of nurses during labor and delivery.
This descriptive qualitative study examined the perspectives of women and their partners regarding the key
roles of the labor and delivery nurse during labor and birth. Ten couples were interviewed separately. The data
analysis, conducted through independent and team analysis, was both iterative and interpretive. Participants
identified four key roles of the labor and delivery nurse: support person, educator, patient advocate, and
provider of continuity of care. Nurses provided both physical and emotional support.

1. Provide examples or scenario wherein a nurse can assume the four key roles of nurses during labor and
delivery.
- When a nurse is in a labor and delivery room, they can be the one to support the mother, then they
will be the one to educate the mother about what to do after delivering the baby, and if an issue came
up, they can be the one to raise the issue and be the patient's advocate. Nurses are the ones who
perform the aftercare after the mother delivered the baby safely; they are the ones who provide care
and continue to care for the mother and baby even after they are released from the hospital.

2. What do you think is the most important role of a nurse to a mother experiencing labor? Explain your
answer.
- The most important role is to be the mother’s provider of continuity of care, mother’s need that after
delivering the baby, they need all the care they can get and we nurses are the one who can provide
that.
