linked to its history, with African, Indian, Amerindian, Chinese, British, French and
to a lesser extent Portuguese and Spanish contributions.

or Indian festival of lights (which takes place in autumn), and Eid_ul-Fitr (which
marks the end of Ramadan for Muslims).
Religion: The predominant religions in Trinidad and Tobago are Catholic and
Protestant. Likewise, ancient indigenous beliefs and those of the black population
are practiced, including animism. Due to the immigration of the Hindustani, there
are groups that profess Hinduism.
Music: Calipso is the best known music of Trinidad and Tobago. Its popularity in
the country is due to its historical role as a means of political and social
denunciation but also as a means of expressing human achievements. It is also the
music associated with carnival.
Dance: Their typical dances are Ram Leela, Hosay, Divali, and the Dragon Boat
Race.
