Robbery

The sun slowly set in the west and it took the last golden opportunity to project its
radiance and splendour. I was trudging back home with a song in my heart after
having an irritating tuition class. However, the tuition class did not extinguish the
exuberance that bubbled in me. I opened the message again when I received it during
the tuition class.

‘Dear, your Daddy and I are on the plane now and we will try our best to throw you a
birthday party before the day ends.’ It was the message from my beloved parents who
went abroad for a business trip two days before. They were coming back home earlier
than I had anticipated in order to celebrate my birthday.

The sky turned dark when I reached home as the sun made a hasty retreat. The moon
had come out and in the luminous light, my residential area laid quiet and peaceful.I
could hardly contain the excitement that was charging through my veins. Elation was
rushing through me as I groped my way into my house in the pitch dark surroundings.
I did not switch on the light as I did no wish to dampen their plan. I was in euphoric
spirits as I tip-toed into the living room without making any noise.

Under the moonlit night, I was able to see that the living room was in a chaos as if a
terrorist attack had just taken place in my home. The drawers and cabinets were
opened and those things were scattered around the space. My mother’s precious vase
was broken into pieces and the unfold clothes were everywhere in my house. A
frisson of fear gripped me as I gnawed on my lower lip. Suddenly, I heard a snuffling
sound from the kitchen and then a sudden silence. Following the dictates of my
curiousity, I inched my way into the kitchen. I could see two masked men stuffing
themselves full of food and drinks. The two men were stucky and muscular with
tanned complexions. They stared menacingly at me without blinking their eyes
although they knew my presence.

I ran out of the house as fast as I could. Nevertheless, another masked man pinned me
to the wall and restrained me to take the next action. Like a streak of lightning, they
gagged and tied me up before I could retaliate. I could not utter a word or a cry for
help. I was like a mice that had dropped into their trap.

Without wasting any time, the three robbers started to search for the cash and
jewellery from every hook and corner. I could just only watch them scooping handfuls
of cash and my mp3 into their bag. Gut-ripping fear flashed down the length of my
spine. I could never imagine what would happen for the next few minutes. I tried to
take out my handphone and made a call to the police. At the same time, I stood up and
pressed on the alarm system, so that the alarm system rang in order to disperse their
attention.

One of the robbers walked swiftly to me and gave me slap for my action. He was
infuriated and could no longer hold back his temper. At this critical moment, from the
distance, they could hear the wailing of sirens. The robbers’ accomplice, who was
acting as a loon-out, gave a shout of warning and took to his heel.
The police stormed in and checked whether I was hurt. Just as my parents arrived in
home with my birthday cake, they were shocked as they saw me in the state of fear.
After they knew the truth, they gave me a warm embrace and praised me for my
prompt action and intelligence. They promised me that they would never leave me
alone at home again.

A Book Review

‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ written by author John Boyne is a moving story set
during the Holocaust. This historical fiction novel was also adapted into a movie of
the same name.

The main characters in the book are Bruno, the son of a Nazi official and Shmuel, a
Jewish boy held in a concentration camp. When Bruno first saw the camp, the
prisoners' uniforms looked like ‘striped pyjamas’ to him. While exploring the fence
surrounding the camp, Bruno meets Shmuel on the other side of the fence and the two
strike up an unlikely friendship.

Once I started reading, it was very difficult to put it down as the story hooked me. I
like how the story focused on the perspectives of children and highlights their
innocence. The story also emphasises how friendship knows no boundaries. While the
book started quite light at the beginning, it is heart-wrenching by the time it ends. I
enjoy books with cautionary tales like this as it contains a lot of moral lessons.

If you’re worried about the language, don’t be. The book is written in simple English
which made it very easy to understand. I didn’t find myself needing to look up many
words in the dictionary. ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ is also not too long, so you
can easily finish reading it within a week.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book as it tells a story with deep
meanings that anyone can reflect on and learn something about.

I recently discovered a very unique restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. I first went there with
my family members and since then I have been going back regularly. The Ship
Seafood Restaurant is indeed a well-known place for local foodies. This restaurant
was established back in 1999 by two brothers who love to eat seafood and can cook
seafood marvellously.

The restaurant is situated by a lake which is used as fish farm. The fish grown by the
owners are organic, so they taste fresher and sweeter than those served in other
restaurants. The indoor dining section, is decorated with pirate ship replicas and
fishermen lanterns from the ceiling, while the sea deck outside is an open-air dining
space with a stunning view of the lake.
The menu at the seafood restaurant was impressive, with a wide variety of seafood
dishes to choose from. There are more than 100 types of seafood and non-seafood
dishes. Patrons can choose to cook their favourite seafood in Malay, Thai or Western
styles. I strongly recommend their delicious mixed seafood tom yum as you can taste
all the seafood at one go.

Apart from that, their staff are very friendly and helpful. From the moment we walked
in, they greeted us with a smile and seated us at a cozy table by the window. The staff
at this seafood restaurant were all very knowledgeable and can easily recommend
their signature or special dishes to you. They are trying their best to make sure we
were enjoying in the restaurant. Overall, their service was top-notch and really made
our dining experience enjoyable.

All-in-all, I would rate The Ship Seafood Restaurant 4.5 out of 5 stars. Its dining
atmosphere, food and service quality are excellent. The prices for live seafood are
slightly above average but other than that, it is quite reasonable. I would definitely
recommend it to all seafood lovers!

Last month, my family and I had the opportunity to spend a long weekend at the
Daisy Lux Hotel in Langkawi. The hotel is right beside Tanjung Rhu beach.
Tanjung Rhu Beach is one of the clearest and cleanest beaches in Malaysia. The
hotel was the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway. The surroundings were
stunning, and we enjoyed our time at the hotel.

From the moment we entered the hotel lobby, we were impressed. The interior

spacious and clean with comfortable double beds and linens. The room was
overlooking the ocean which had a fabulous view. There is a kettle, a small fridge
and a large TV which we loved. The bathroom was nicely decorated with unique
tiles. They provided plush towels and top of the line toiletry sets which they would
replace every day.

In addition to the comfortable accommodations, the hotel also offered a wide

range of activities and facilities for guests to enjoy. We were delighted by the
large pool facing the beach. We could just walk right to the beach after taking a
dip in the pool. The hotel restaurant has a stunning interior as well. We were able
to have a relaxing breakfast and dinner every day that we were there. The price of
the food was pretty expensive, but the food was delicious and top-notch.

The staff of Daisy Lux Hotel was excellent and pleasant. They were very
welcoming and accommodating. The housekeeping staff was efficient and
attentive. Everyone was caring about our needs to ensure that we were enjoying
our stay.

On the whole, we enjoyed the hospitality at Daisy Lux Hotel and we had a
wonderful experience of staying there. Location is good, the staff is courteous, the
facilities were awesome. I would definitely recommend Daisy Lux Hotel as it is a
great place for guests to relax and enjoy themselves.
