ADVICE FOR A FRIEND
In the park

STUDENT A:

Your best friend hasn’t been doing very well in his/her exams
lately. You’re a bit worried and want to give them advice. To start
with, you believe it’s easier to get prepared for exams when you
have a study group. Also, you think watching TV while studying is
not really helpful. Can you think of any other pieces of advice? Talk
to your friend and share your tips with them.

your best friend for a walk in the park to ask them for advice

what pieces of advice you are able to follow.

Scenario #3:
WEAK Wi-Fi SIGNAL
In the hotel

STUDENT A:
You’re spending 2 weeks of your summer holidays in a guest house in
Malta, together with your parents and your sister/brother. Unfortunately, it
turns out that the wi-fi signal in the room you’ve chosen is extremely weak.
You badly need it as you want to stay in touch with your best friend.
Try to negotiate with your brother/sister. You know they are jealous
of your tablet and would die to have it every day for a bit to play some
of the games you’ve got installed. You are OK with lending it to them
for 30 minutes in the mornings. Compromise if needed.

Useful language:
Do you think we could…?
Would you like to…?
If you…, I will (not)...
Deal?

Useful language:
I will (not) unless ...
That’s fine.
That’s out of the question.
Forget it.
STUDENT B:
You’re spending 2 weeks of your summer holidays in a guest house in
Malta, together with your parents and your sister/brother. You are lucky.
Your room has got the best wi-fi signal! The problem is that your phone
has been blocked by your parents so that you can’t play any online
games. Too bad! However, it turns out that your brother/sister would die
to have a better wi-fi connection as they want to stay in touch with their
best friend. That’s your chance! Try to negotiate with them and get them to
borrow you a tablet for 1-2 hours a day, preferably in the evenings so that
you can secretly kill time after bedtime. If they agree, you are willing to
swap rooms. Compromise if needed.
