Sure, Yellowstone is the nation’s first official national park. But it was Yo-
semite that actually set a precedent for the creation of all national parks. In fact,
before Yellowstone received national park designation in 1872, good ol’ Abe
200 Main St, Ste #107, Huntington Beach Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant Act, which was the first time the federal
government set aside parkland for preservation and public use.
(714) 536-6300 It’s not unusual to see Yosemite at the top of a “best of” list — it’s almost im-
possible to place it anywhere else. Few other places in the world have inspired
generations of environmentalists, poets, artists, hikers, climbers, and general
outdoor enthusiasts the way that Yosemite has. Yosemite also checks just about
every box when it comes to accessibility, accommodations, activities, and gran-
deur. Large, sweeping meadows briefly part to expose incredible granite mono-
liths and cliffs, a rushing river, and roaring waterfalls. Yosemite Valley, the most
famous stretch of road in the park, will leave you awestruck before you even
get out of the car.
World-class climbing routes attract climbers from around the world. Scenic
vistas and overlooks, like Tunnel View and Glacier Point, provide postcard-
worthy snapshots of park icons like Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls,
Bridalveil Fall, and Three brothers — all before you so much as step foot on
any of the park’s 800-miles of trail.

Here are nine U.S. brand logos that have “hidden” messages you might not be
aware of.

FAMOUS MURDERS
THAT REMAIN
UNSOLVED
By Thomm Quackenbush
Despite what television would have you believe, not every mur-
der is solved in under an hour. No matter how much effort police
put into the cases at the time and amateur sleuths do afterward,
some murders will never be solved.
That's not to say that all unsolved murders are created equal. For
some, almost everything about the case is unknown: the culprit,
the victim's identity, the method, the motive. On occasion, the best
the police can tell the public is that someone was definitely killed,
but anything after that is nebulous. With other cases, everyone
knows who did it, but they managed to get acquitted or gave the
police an alibi. In still others, the only reason that witnesses aren't
pointing fingers at the culprit is that these fingers will be immedi-
ately cut off — along with their heads.
However, for what little good it did for the victims, sometimes
being unable to solve a murder drives those left behind to improve
the world so that no one else has to suffer the same fate.
