Fire Safety service in the Municipality of Argao is rendered by the Argao Fire
Station (AFS). It is manned by fifteen (15) able-bodied personnel for a population of
72,366. Based on the ideal fireman to population ratio which is 1:2,000, the station has
manpower shortage of twenty-one (21) personnel.
There are two (2) serviceable 1,000 gallons capacity fire trucks and eleven (11) fire
hydrants but three (3) of these are defective. The fire hydrants that are functional are
located at Maayo Stay Argao (hotel area), Public Market, three (3) along San Miguel Street,
Brgy. Binlod and Brgy. Tulic. The defective ones are at Cosey Corner and another three (3)
along San Miguel Street.
Along with this, series of firefighting trainings is relevant to the newly hired
firefighters to ensure not only the safety of the lives of people and property but for their
own protection. Despite of the limitations, fire incidents in the Municipality of Argao has
reduced by 17.39% from 23 fire incidents in 2018 to 19 fire incidents in 2019.
Part of the annual programs and activities of the station are celebrations of Fire
Prevention Month in March, Disaster Prevention Month in July, “Ugnayan sa Barangay”,
Fire Safety Awareness Campaign through Recorida and Distribution of Fire Safety
Information Materials, fire drills and lectures in establishments.
The Argao District Jail, which was established on June 26, 2018 and started its
operation on March 15, 2019, is manned by sixteen (24) BJMP personnel and it has a total
jail population of two hundred seventy seven (277) persons deprived of liberty (PDLs),
269 are males and 8 are females.
The rate of congestion is increasing rapidly which might cause adverse condition to
inmates like health problems due to climate change (cells in jails are not well ventilated).
Consequently, there is a great and urgent need of additional jail buildings in Argao District
Jail so that health and living condition of inmates will be protected while they are still
behind bars.
