Municipality of Argao posted a total population of 72,366 persons as of 2015

National Statistics Office survey, which is 2.46 percent of the total provincial population of
2,938,982. This represents an increase of 2,863 persons over the total population of
69,503 in 2010. The 2010 figures translated to an annual population growth of 0.81
percent from 2010 to 2015. It is expected that the population will double in 90 years or in
2105.

As of 2015, the Municipality of Argao has 72,366 total household populations with
an average household size of 4.6. The household population comprises 37,044 males or

about 51.19 percent and 35,322 females or 48.81 percent from the total households. The
graph shows that males were almost the same in females having a ratio of 104.88 males
for every 100 females. About 29.66 percent of the total household population belongs to
the age group 0-14 years old or child and youth dependent population. Productive
population (ages 15-64 years old) comprise 66.03 percent, while 7.31 percent of the
household population are elders (above 65 years old). The total dependency ratio of the
municipality is 55.99 percent which means that for every 100 person’s ages 15-64 years
old, 45 young dependents and 11 old dependents).

Population
The Municipality has 1 (one) urban barangay as defined by the National Statistics
Office which recorded to have a population of 5,454. This barangay is considered the
favorite location of essential and non-essential establishments and the center of trade and
commerce for many investors. For rural areas, Barangay Taloot posts the highest number
of population of 3,990 which is 5.51 percent of the total population. On the other side,
Barangay Conalum is the least populated area with a population of 585 which is 0.81
percent of the total population. The rural barangay(s) serve as the Municipal’s vegetables
and crops provider.

The population density of the Municipality is 3.49 persons per hectare. The data
derived from the NSO Census of 2015 on population distribution and densities of every

barangay show the unbalanced spatial distribution of the municipality’s population. The
most densely populated barangay are those within the center of the town. Barangay
Poblacion has recorded to be most densely populated with a population concentration of
5,454 over an area of 118.92 hectares or a population density of 45.86 persons per
hectare.

Since the first censal year 1903, the Municipality’s population has been increasing
except in 1939, 1948 and 1960. After 1960, population of the Municipality has posted
significant increase this is mainly brought by migration of people from neighboring
municipalities for job and income opportunities.

Roman Catholic is the most dominant religion in the municipality exhibiting the
highest population of 68,429 or 94.56% of the total number of people followed by Iglesia
in Cristo, Assembly of God, Seventh day Adventist, Jehovah’s Witness, Bible Baptist,
United Pentecostal Church and Jesus is Lord. “Cebuano” is the dominant dialect spoken
and about 97.01 percent of the population 10 years old and above are literate.
