INTRODUCTION [2 MINS]
Let me start with a simple story. There was once a farmer. In his farm, he planted the seeds of the
weeds. He made sure to nurture them, by using the right amount of water, light, and space for
them to grow. But very strangely, when summer came, he would sit and wait. He would
continually ask himself the question, “When will mangoes grow on my farm?” Is it possible? No,
of course not बीज बोया बबूल का तो आम कहां से पावे ? (How can one plant the seeds of weeds and get the
reward of mangoes?)
Friends, just like this, we too keep the expectation of good rewards. But to attain those rewards, we
must first plant good habits into our lives. So, let’s explore the important role that habits play in our
lives.
LINK [2 MINS]
“In this world, the ordinary and extraordinary can be distinguished by their habits. Those who wake
up early, develop the habit of waking up early. Those who wake up late, develop a habit of waking up
late. Those who study hard, develop a habit of studying hard. And those who act lazy, develop a habit
of being lazy. Friends, our daily actions - good or bad - automatically become ingrained in our life as
habits. So, if we are destined to form habits, then why not develop good habits? We are going to learn
about how we can cultivate good habits into our lives, through a video lecture. But before we start, let
me just remind you to take notes as we will be discussing the lecture afterwards.”
Ask the students to explain the main point from the lecture, as they given their answers, note
down a summary of what they say on the board.
Read the following line from the workbook (page - 9) to the students. The workbook should not be
opened by the students at this stage.
Ask the students, what they think the result of the study was: “Which daily habits do you think the
self-made millionaires have?” Ask the students to call out answers, and write them on the board. (3
mins)
After this short activity, read the 4 habits that the study found (and you can allow the students to
open their workbook). Use the ‘waking-up early’ habit as an example and explain:
(1) the habit’s benefits, e.g. can attend college on time
(2) how it automatically creates more good habits e.g. can develop the habit to study before
college begins
(3) how it contributes to making a successful millionaire e.g. can complete more work in one day
(5 mins)
Tell the students to make groups of 3 and then allocate each group one of the remaining 3 habits.
Tell them to discuss these 3 points above for their allocated habit. (5 mins). Then as a class, collect
the group’s answers. (5 mins)
Optional Take-Home Activity: You can inform them to watch Charles Duhigg’s TEDx talk, after
the class (using the QR code) if they wish to delve deeper into the topic.
LECTURE: 02 POWER OF HABIT Part - B
CLASSROOM
REVISION [3 MINS]
If this second session is not continuous with the first hour, then briefly explain what was
discussed in Lecture Video Part A.
INTERACTION
SUMMARY Part - B [10 MINS]
Ask the students to explain the main point from the lecture, as they given their answers, note
down a summary of what they say on the board.
Introduce the 21-day challenge in the workbook and motivate the students. Explain the process
of the two examples given in the workbook. Then let the students think and complete the activity
themselves. Ask them how they will use the techniques from the lecture video to implement these
habits into their lives. Walk around the room, helping the students as necessary.
Motivate the students to complete the 21-day challenge. Use rocket example at the end of the
workbook lesson (page - 12)
