We live in a world of modern technology where everybody is becoming more and more

‘addicted’ to social media. One question that comes up is whether it is a good idea for parents to be
on their kid’s friend list? Is it ok for the parents to be part of their kid’s ‘social life’?

First of all, Facebook, Instagram and other appealing social media have become an integral
part of our lives. So, teenagers spend most of their leisure time chatting, typing, posting, sharing…
Parents have every right to know about what their children are doing or where they are going. By
doing so, they are more likely to understand the mindset of their children and find it easier to
approach them and be there when they need it.

Another positive side of being online friends with our parents is that we can get to know
each other in a slightly different way. Namely, both children and parents can find out about their
favorites, interests, hobbies, the way they support some ideas, their viewpoints and each other’s
way of thinking, in general. If children have an open communication with their parents, then online
friendship would not be an issue for discussion at all.

In conclusion, parents exist to be our sunshine in the rain and it is definitely a positive thing
to let them be part of our ‘social lives’. Of course, when everybody knows their limit, nothing can be
damaged by an online friendship.
