a) The electrochemical cell behaves like an electrolytic cell
b) The electrochemical cell stops functioning
c) Only oxidation reactions occur in the cell
d) Only reduction reactions occur in the cell
7 Identify the configuration of transition element, which shows highest magnetic moment. 1
(a) 3d7
(b) 3d5

(a) Assertion and reason both are correct statements and reason is correct explanation for
assertion.
(b) Assertion and reason both are correct statements, but reason is not correct explanation
for assertion.
(c) Assertion is correct statement, but reason is wrong statement.
(d) Assertion is wrong statement, but reason is correct statemen

9 Assertion : Tertiary amines are more basic than corresponding secondary and primary 1
amines in gaseous state.
Reason : Tertiary amines have three alkyl groups which cause +I effect
10 Assertion : . Cu2+ iodide is not known. 1
Reason : Cu2+ oxidizes I – to iodine.
SECTION B

11 a) Although Zr belongs to 4d and Hf belongs to 5d transition series but it is quite difficult 2

to separate them. Why?
b) Although +3 oxidation states is the characteristic oxidation state of lanthanoids but
cerium shows +4 oxidation state also. Why?
12 a) Write the IUPAC name of 2

b) Write the structures of main products when benzene diazonium chloride reacts with the

(iii) Write the unit of rate constant for this reaction.
SECTION C

17 Give reasons for the following observations: 3

a) Aniline is acetylated before nitration reaction.
b) Primary amine on treatment with benzenesulphonyl chloride forms a product which is
soluble in NaOH however secondary amine gives product which is insoluble in NaOH.
