ilaw”was his pen name.

B)Background of the Document/Primary Source

Andres Bonifacio, the originator of the Philippine Revolution and former President of the Katipunan's
Supreme Council, issued the obligations of the people's sons in 1986. Basically, it's a list of the tasks and
obligations that everyone in the company must follow to the letter.During the writing of the document,
the Philippines were still under the control of the Spaniards.
Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata and Valentin Diaz formed the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary
organization/society.
The papers' primary idea is that they contain 14 pieces of information that describe the ideas that
Katipuneros should have. Furthermore, the document's original title was Katungkulang Gawain ng mga
Z.L.I.B. ( duties of the sons of the people).

C.Content Analysis of the Important Historical Information Found in the Document

It turns out the KKK is a historically important secret society and revolutionary group. Its beginnings
date back to 1892 when anti-Spanish Filipinos decided to band together. The members had the common
goal of gaining independence from Spanish rule.
Now the official name of the society was Kataastaasan, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng
Bayan. When translated into English, means Supreme and Most Honorable Society of the Children of
the Nation. So it seems that shortening it to KKK or the Katipunan was a reasonable decision.
The founders of the group Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Ladislao Diwa plus various others were
mostly Freemasons. This meant that a lot of the organisational structure adopted by the KKK was
borrowed from Philippine Freemasonry.
A lot of people associate the Filipino national hero Jose Rizal with the KKK. Although Rizal was not
formally a member of the group; due to his being exiled to Mindanao at the time; he still remained a
close affiliate with the KKK. The society had been created as a reaction to the La Liga Filipina
organization being shut down, an organization in which Rizal was the founding member.

the fight for independence against Spanish colonial rule. Emerging in the late 19th century, it was
founded by Filipino patriots who sought to liberate the country from Spanish oppression. It was
established on July 7, 1892, by Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Ladislao Diwa, along with a group of

E)Relevance of the documents to the present time

Kartilya of the Katipunan was one of important part of the organization. It was what made the
Katipunan. The rules and ideologies indicated in the Kartilya became the guiding principles of
theKatipuneros while fighting for the freedom of the country. The kartilya emphasizes the love of
country, love of one’s fellowmen, and to value honor and dignity through virtuous living. It also
encompasses
that the external capacities is not what makes human greatness but the internal. In todays setting the
Kartilya of the Katipunan serves as one of the foundations that honed the moraland intellectual principle
of the Filipinos. It also serves as a reminder of what our heroes have fought forin order to achieve the
country’s independence from the ruthless hands of the foreign colonizers.Eventhough the Kartilya was
created during the time of the Katipuneros, the values it teaches can still beapplied in the present time.
For instance, one of the rules in the Kartilya indicates that all people are equal no matter what their
external attributes are, and the most important thing is what’s on the inside. This rule can be applied in
the present day where
discrimination is rampant. Another one of the notablerules of the Kartilya asserts the importance of
women, therefore they should not be treated as play things, instead they should be considered as
sympathetic companions in life. Regarding this topic, intoday’s generation the women’s rights are
strengthened and are not neglected. Aside from these issues, the Kartilya of the Katipunan is relevant to
the Human rights of the Philipines as a whole.
