Hand Tools
1. Wrench or Spanner is a tool used to provide grip and mechanical
advantage in applying torque to turn objects—usually rotary fasteners,
such as nuts and bolts—or keep them from turning. A set of metric
spanners or wrenches, open at one end and box/ring at the other. These
are commonly known as “combination” spanners.

 Open-end Wrench a wrench having parallel jaws at fixed separation

(often on both ends of the handle) synonyms: tappet wrench.
 Box end Wrenches a wrench with a closed loop (a socket) that fits over a
nut or bolt head. synonyms: box wrench. type of: spanner, wrench. a hand
tool that is used to hold or twist a nut or bolt.
 Combination Wrenches have a closed loop on one side (box-end) for
hexagonal or square nuts, while the other end is an open U-shape (open-
end). These wrenches are often used for nuts that are hard to loosen. The
closed-end can loosen the nut, while the open end is then used to unscrew
it fully.
 Monkey Wrench a wrench with one fixed and one adjustable jaw at right
angles to a straight handle, something that disrupts. threw a monkey
wrench into the peace negotiations.
 Torque Wrench is an instrument that adjusts or tightens bolts and nuts to
a predetermined torque value. This tool allows for tightening fasteners to
their proper tension, helping avoid damage from over-tightening of joints
coming apart from under-tightening
 Socket Wrench is the simple handled tool with an inbuilt ratcheting
mechanism, usually featuring a head design that allows for various sizes
and shapes of socket to be added to one end.
 Adjustable Wrench is an open-ended wrench with a moveable jaw. Its
function is the same as any regular spanner - to grip fasteners, such as
nuts and bolts - however, only adjustable spanners can grip fasteners of
all sizes, thanks to their moveable jaw.
 Allen Key or Allen Wrench is a small handheld tool that's used for
driving bolts and screws with a hexagonal socket. They are available in
many different sizes, though they all have the same hexagonal-shaped tip.
To learn more about hex keys and the benefits they offer, keep reading.

2. Screwdrivers are a type of hand tool used for the insertion and removal
of screws. They are available in a multitude of variations to correspond to
the correct screw drive. The drive or head of a screw has a shaped cavity
and protrusion that fits the screwdriver tip.

 Slotted Screwdrivers also known as a flat head or flat blade

screwdrivers, have a flat blade tip at the end of the shaft that is inserted
into the single horizontal groove (the slot) in the fastener head and the
handle is turned to rotate the screw. They can come in two blade profiles:
keystone and cabinet.
 Cross Slot or Phillips Screwdriver is typical simple screwdriver has a
handle and a shaft, ending in a tip the user puts into the screw head before
turning the handle. This form of the screwdriver has been replaced in
many workplaces and homes with a more modern and versatile tool, a
power drill, as they are quicker, easier, and can also drill holes.
 Pozidriv Screwdrivers are essentially an upgraded version of Philips.
They were designed to reduce cam-out, which is the process where a
screwdriver slips out of the screw head when more torque is applied.
 Torx Screwdrivers, also known as Star screwdrivers were developed in
1967. Inventors were looking for an alternative to a Phillips screwdriver.
Torx screwdrivers design allow for a more even distribution of force
while tightening or loosening a screw and prevents the cam-out that often
happens with Phillips screws.
 Hex/ Hexagon Screwdriver are commonly sold in sets. Precision hex
screwdrivers are great for turning small screws on sensitive electronic
components. Drivers have handles with a rotating cap that allows the user
to hold the shaft of the screwdriver steady while only rotating the cap at
the back.

3. Plier’s hand-operated tool for holding and gripping small articles or for
bending and cutting wire. Slip-joint pliers have grooved jaws, and the
pivot hole in one member is elongated so that the member can pivot in
either of two positions in order to grasp objects of different size in the

most effective way.

 Pump Pliers are versatile tools commonly employed for rotating nuts and
bolts, as well as gripping irregular objects or securing parts. These pliers
typically boast serrated jaws, ensuring a firm grasp.
 Electronics Pliers these pliers are intended to be used to cut the delicate
electronic components such as circuit boards. Extremely fine, tiny, and
narrow jaws allow you to get in close for very exact trimming and tip
cutting.
 Long-nose Pliers sometimes referred to as needle-nose pliers, are ideal
for jeweler making, working in tight spaces or cutting small-gauge wire.
They feature long, slender jaws that make it easy to access hard-to-reach
spaces
 Flush Cutter Pliers is most popularly used for cutting wire that will be
exposed or needs to be even with the opposite end for a secure closure.
Semi flush cutters are also a popular choice for many.
 Insulated Combination Pliers are the same as traditional ones, but they
have insulated handles, which means the user will not receive a shock if
accidentally touching a live electrical wire. They are commonly used by
electricians.
 Diagonal Cutting Pliers are used for cutting wire. They cut wire by
indenting and wedging a cable apart (as opposed to shearing like
scissors). The name comes from how the cutting edges of the jaws are set
at an angle (hence the name “diagonal”).

4. Hammer is a tool, most often a hand tool, consisting of a weighted

“head” fixed to a long handle that is swung to deliver an impact to a small
area of an object. This can be, for example, to drive nails into wood, to
shape metal (as with a forge), or to crush rock. Hammers are used for a
wide range of driving, shaping, breaking and non-destructive striking
applications. Traditional disciplines include carpentry, blacksmithing,
warfare, and percussive musicianship.
 Ball Peen Hammer is for peening (surface hardening by impact), the
ball-peen hammer is useful for many tasks, such as striking punches and
chisels (usually performed with the flat face of the hammer). The peening
face is useful for rounding off edges of metal pins and fasteners, such as
rivets.
 Cross Peen Hammer is used to make the metal fuller when used with
heat. The main function of a cross peen hammer is to shape the metal
during forging and riveting.
 Straight Peen is a "blade" that is parallel to the handle. The straight pein
can be sharp, rounded, flat, smooth or textured. A straight pein hammer
can be used in metal work, stone work, blacksmithing or woodworking.
 Claw Hammer is a hammer primarily used in carpentry for driving nails
into or pulling them from wood. Historically, a claw hammer has been
associated with woodworking, but is also used in general applications.
 Sledge Hammer is a heavy-duty hammer used for demolition jobs where
high force is required. It has a large, flat metal head attached to a long
wooden handle. The length of the handle allows the tool to gain
momentum while swinging, and the heavy metal head results in amplified
force compared to a usual hammer.

5. Chisel is a tool with a characteristically shaped cutting edge of blade on

its end; for carving or cutting a hard material such as wood, stone, or
metal by hand, struck with a mallet, or mechanical power.

 Flat Chisel is the basic cold chisel, used in the cutting of a variety of
metals. The cutting edges of some flat chisels may be somewhat rounded
because otherwise, the corners may start to gouge the surface the chisel is
being used on.
 Crosscut (or cape) Chisel is designed for those who want to get into
those tight areas. The design of the tool is such that the handle is thinner
than the cutting edge, which narrows on two sides until it reaches a point.
 Half-round Chisel is a type of chisel which has a rounded shape,
although the top of the tool is actually flat. It is designed to create
grooves/channels with rounded bottoms.
 Diamond Point Chisel has a diamond shaped tip and is used to create
grooves with a “V” shape, something which may be desirable in many
instances, including carving.

6. Measuring Tool is anything used to take a count of quantitative data,

such as weight, length, time or temperature. Rulers and scales are two
common types of measuring tools. Measuring tools can be very precise,
but low-quality ones can lead to faulty measurements.

 Micrometers are specially designed for the measurement of very small

objects. They allow for the highly precise measurement of any item that
fits between the anvil and spindle. Standard types of micrometers can be
used for the fine measurement of items under one inch in length, depth,
and thickness.
 Protractor is a semicircular geometry tool divided into 180 equal parts,
each measuring 1°. It is used for drawing angles of known measures and
finding angles of unknown measures and is usually made of transparent
plastic, glass, steel, or wood. The geometry protractor has two scales
marked on it: outer and inner.
 Tape Measure/Measuring Tape is a type of hand tool typically used to
measure distance or size. It is like a much longer flexible ruler consisting
of a case, thumb lock, blade/tape, hook, and sometimes a belt clip. A tape
measure will have imperial readings, metric readings or both.
 Gauge functions are used for sets that are Minkowski or Hausdorff
degenerate. The aim, if possible, is to find an explicit gauge function so
that the corresponding generalized Minkowski contents or Hausdorff
measure of A be nondegenerate.
 Spirit Level is a tool used to indicate how parallel (level) or
perpendicular (plumb) a surface is relative to the earth. A spirit level gets
its name from the mineral spirit solution inside the levels.
 Inclinometer is a sensor used to measure the magnitude of the inclination
angle or deformation of any structure. The bent is either depicted in
percentage or degrees concerning gravity.
 Compass is a device that indicates direction. It is one of the most
important instruments for navigation.

ruler helps to create accurate 90° angles and straight edges. It measures,
rules, and squares simultaneously.
 Angle Gauge is a gauge or sine bar used for angle inspection. It is used
for various purposes such as measuring V-pulley groove and V-belt,
checking the precision of steel frames, and inspecting the angle of the
tool bit blade shape.
 Calipers is for measuring the distance between two opposite sides of a
surface. We can measure the internal and external dimensions and even
the height of an object with accuracy. It can measure up to one-hundredth
of a millimeter.
 Speedometer, instrument that indicates the speed of a vehicle, usually
combined with a device known as an odometer that records the distance
traveled.
 Laser Level is a control tool consisting of a rotating laser beam projector
that can be affixed to a tripod. The tool is leveled according to the
accuracy of the device and projects a fixed red or green beam in a plane
about the horizontal and/or vertical axis.
7. Files and Rasp is a coarse form of file used for coarsely shaping wood or
other material. Typically, a hand tool, it consists of a generally tapered
rectangular, round, or half-round sectioned bar of case-hardened steel
with distinct, individually cut teeth.

closely spaced together to clean surfaces that require aggressive and
abrasive tools.

 Channel Scratch Brush is to clean threads and remove light rust or

paint. They come in various lengths, with the most common filaments
ranging from seven to twelve inches. The handle can be bent or straight,
depending on the application.
 Scratch Brushes are general-purpose brushes used for paint, rust, and
dirt removal. Handles can be made of plastic or wood with fill options of
steel, stainless steel, brass, or bronze filaments.
 Welder Brushes is for welding have to be highly durable due to the
nature of the application. This brush is used to prepare a surface for
welding by removing oils, dirt, dust, and other materials that may
contaminate the process. Once welding is completed, welding brushes are
used to remove excess slag or minor burns.
 Utility Brushes is the common utility brush comes with a standard face
of two by three inches and an overall length of eight inches. This type of
brush can be found in many places, from homes for cleaning the BBQ
grill to cleaning and preparing parts for production. The most common
type of utility brush has a wooden handle with a slightly angled head.

knotted and made from steel, stainless steel, or brass. Used for tightening
and loosening bolts and nuts.

Power Tools

1. Drill cylindrical end-cutting tool used to originate or enlarge circular

holes in solid material. Usually, drills are rotated by a drilling machine
and fed into stationary work, but on other types of machines a stationary
drill may be fed into rotating work or drill and work may rotate in
opposite directions.
 Hammer Drills are the right tool for drilling into masonry (brick, stone,
block, concrete) to set anchors and create holes for outlet boxes. With a
masonry bit, the hammer drill chips as it turns to push through the
material.
 Compact Drill Driver. It's a battery-powered hole maker and a fastener
driver for screws, nuts and small bolts. It's equipped with a clutch that
disengages the drill's drivetrain when the tool reaches a specified amount
of torque (turning force).
 Percussion Drill/Impact Drill, is a power tool used chiefly for drilling in
hard materials. It is a type of rotary drill with an impact mechanism that
generates a hammering motion.
 Mixer & Rotary Drill is a popular with builders, plasterers and
decorators, a mixer and rotary drill is a multi-purpose machine. You can
use it for boring holes in a wide variety of materials including wood and
metal, as well as mixing all kinds of liquids such as mortar, plaster and
paint – thanks to the mixing paddle that comes with the kit.
 Right-angle Drills set their bit-holding chuck at 90° to the tool body,
giving them a slim profile for accessing corners and reaching into tight
spaces. They have a straight body for gripping the tool and applying
pressure to the bit during drilling and driving.
2. Grinders is a power tool (or machine tool) used for grinding. It is a type
of machining using an abrasive wheel as the cutting tool. Each grain of
abrasive on the wheel's surface cuts a small chip from the workpiece via
shear deformation.
 Bench Grinders, which are sometimes referred to as offhand or
pedestal grinders, are a common piece of equipment on job sites
and in the shop. They are used for a variety of tasks, including
sharpening, polishing, buffing and cleaning metal objects.
 Portable Grinders are handheld power tools that are used for
grinding, cutting or polishing. These versatile tools can be used for
a variety of tasks when used with the proper grinder wheels
according to the manufacturer's recommendations, including:
Removing paint, rust or mortar.
 Belt Grinders are used for grinding and shaping metal parts. They
have a wide variety of applications, from metalworking to knife
making. Belt grinders can be used for both coarse and fine
grinding, and they can also be used for deburring and polishing.
 Swing Frame Grinders are used for grinding gate stubs, riser
pads, parting lines and core fins. The unit provides a smoother
finish comparable to swing frame grinders with type 1, straight
wheels and generally out performs portable grinders 3 to 1.
 Internal Grinding, also popularly known as a cylindrical grinding
machine, has an internal grinding wheel that allows you to grind
internal and external parts of a particular material. The internal
surface of the workpiece is machined with the rotating axle wheel.
 Cylindrical Grinder is a type of grinding machine used to shape
the outside of an object. The cylindrical grinder can work on a
variety of shapes; however, the object must have a central axis of
rotation. This includes but is not limited to such shapes as a
cylinder, an ellipse, a cam, or a crankshaft.
 Surface Grinder is a tool that uses a stationary, abrasive, rotating
wheel to shave or finish a metallic surface. Surface grinders can be
dangerous if not used properly. Read the owner's manual carefully.
Ensure that all parts, switches and plugs are in good working
condition.

3. Sander is portable power tool used for smoothing, polishing, or cleaning

a surface, as of wood, plastic, or metal. Sanders are also used to roughen
surfaces in preparation for finishing. There are three main types of power
sanders: the disk sander, the belt sander, and the orbital sander.
 Orbital Sanders are an excellent tool to sand wood with. They remove
wood at an astounding rate and leave surfaces gleaming as a fine
finishing sander would. There are different types of orbital sanders, such
as regular orbital finishing sanders and random orbital sanders.
 Disc Sanders are power tools that use rotating sanding discs to grind and
smooth a wide range of surfaces, including wood, metal, plastic, and
composites. This detailed machine, which consists of a base and a table in
front of the rotating section, is one of the most commonly used power
sanders in woodworking.
 Belt Sanders primary function is to remove material from a surface.
Surfaces can be leveled and smoothed, or enough material can be
removed from an object to give it a specific shape. Bench belt sanders are
better suited to smaller stocks, whereas portable belt sanders are better
suited to wider surfaces and objects.
 Drywall Sander is used in smoothing drywall to achieve a uniform and
polished effect. Smoothing drywall is an undertaking that involves the
application of three layers of plastering material. After applying the
finishing layer, you can then complete the sanding process.

4. Circular Saws is a power-saw using a toothed or abrasive disc or blade

to cut different materials using a rotary motion spinning around an arbor.
A hole saw and ring saw also use a rotary motion but are different from a
circular saw. Circular saws may also be loosely used for the blade itself.

 Worm Drive Saw has the motor attached at the rear. This is very
powerful and its power is driven through two gears each set at 90 degrees.
This setting implies that the engine produces more torque but less
Rotation Per Minute (RPM) of about 4,500.
 Flooring Saw is the tools that will allow you to create the necessary cross
cuts, rip cuts, and miters.
 Due to different design ideas or patent constraints or a combination of
both, the direct drive saw (sidewinder) was later developed featuring the
motor next to the blade. This made the saw wider, but also shorter and
lighter, than a worm drive saw. It also provided more control for the less
experienced user.
 Trim Saw is best for trimming and not for directly cutting wood pieces
down to size. Also, since they are much lighter, trim saws are much easier
to maneuver around materials, making them excellent cordless models.
 Left-handed Saw is typically easier to use if held in the right hand, and
contrariwise for the right-handed saw, because the user does not need to
lean across the saw to see the cutting line.
5. Welding Equipment
Welding machine is a device used for
fusing metals. The machine emits an
electrical arc from an electrode which melts
metal or supplies filler into a joint between
two pieces of metal. To produce the
temperatures up to 3,600ºC needed to fuse
metals, arc welding machines consume
significant quantities of energy.

Welding torch is used in an automatic

welding system to direct the welding
electrode into the arc, to conduct welding
power to the electrode, and to provide
shielding of the arc area.

Welding Rod is used to sustain the welding

arc and to provide the filler metal required
for the joint to be welded. The coating
