Assignments There will be 2 collective homework assignments during the semester. Students should upload the
homework on their due date to Ninova/ITU.
Notice There will be 2 midterm exams and 1 final exam. Announcements relating course can be accessed
through Ninova during the semester.

2nd Week Principal Stresses in Bending with Shear. Strain. Combined Loadings.

3rd Week Shear Center. Shear Stress and Shear Center Analysis in Open and
Closed Tube Cross Sections.
4th Week Elastic Curve. Definition And Idealizations. Integration Method. Solution With Singular Functions.
Practices.
5th Week Initial Values Method, Mohr Method and Superposition Method. Effect Of Shear Force to Elastic Curve.
General Case in Elastic Curve. Practices.
6th Week Normal Force + Bending Moment. Skew Bending. Eccentric Normal Force.

7th Week Kernel. Tensionless Material. Design. Practices.

8th Week Bending With Torsion. Combined loading.

9th Week Energy Theorems. Work of internal and external Loads. Virtual Work. Virtual Work Theorem. Virtual
Work Equation. Practices.
10th Week Castigliano Theorems. Practices.

11th Week Principles of Minimum Work. Practices.

12th Week Buckling. Introduction. Euler Cases. Elasto – Plastic Buckling. Practices.

13th Week Omega Method. Energy Methods in Buckling. Practices.

14th Week Plasticity in Normal Load, Torsion And Bending. Practices.

In order to take the final exam students must:


1-) Attend 70% of the lecture hours,
2-) Submit assignments on their due date,
3-) Take the mid-term exams and take the average grade at least 30. Otherwise, the student cannot take
Notice: the final exam, and she/he gets VF from the course.
Course Success Criteria:
Homeworks 10% + 1st Midterm Exam 20% + 2nd Midterm Exam 20% + Final Exam 50%. In addition,
the student must take the final exam, otherwise she/he gets FF, regardless of the mid-term grade.
