INTRODUCTION TO ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE
SYLLABUS CONTENT:
• ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
• INTELLIGENT SYSTEM
• HISTORY OF AI
• APPLICATIONS OF AI

• THE PRESENT STATE OF AI

• ETHICS IN AI
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

• Invented by John McCarthy in 1950 as Modern Computer.

• Modern Computers consist of two words:
• “Artificial” & “Intelligence”.
• Intelligence related to human, solve problem for life more efficiently.
FOUNDATIONS OF AI

• Basically there are 4 approaches:

1. Acting humanly
2. Thinking humanly
3. Acting Rationally
4. Thinking Rationally
ACTING HUMANLY: THE TURING TEST APPROACH

For turing test, the computer needs to possess the

following terms:
1. NLP:
2. Knowledge Representation:
3. Automated Reasoning:
4. Machine Learning:

THINKING HUMANLY: THE COGNITIVE
MODELLING APPROACH
• Cognitive science is interdisciplinary field which combines computer models for AI with
technique for psychology.
There are three patterns dictates humans thinking.
• Introspection: human can catch their own thoughts as they go through.
• Psychological Experiments: by observing a person in action.
• Brain Imaging: Just by observing the brain action.
ACTING RATIONALITY: THE RATIONAL AGENT
APPROACH
• Rational Agents acts in a way to maximize its performance.
• It is said to perform the right things only.
• For possible action agent get positive rewards and for wrong action agent gets negative
rewards.
THINKING RATIONALITY: THE “LAWS OF
THOUGHT” APPROACH
• “Study of mental faculties through the use of computational models”. (Charniak &
McDermott, 1985).
• It gives us precise notation to express facts of real world. It also includes reasoning &
right thinking.
• There are two problems:
• Not suitable
• Vast number of computation

ETHICS IN AI

• AI ethics is a system of moral principles and techniques.

• AI has become integral to products and services, organizations are starting to develop AI
codes of ethics.
• Isaac Asimov, the science fiction writer, foresaw the potential dangers of autonomous AI
agents long before their development and created The Three Laws of Robotics as a means
of limiting those risks.
ASSIGNMENT

• CASE STUDY ON ANY AI APPLICATION BASED ON IEEE, SPRINGER AND ANY

SPECIFIC JOUNAL PAPER.
