• Finding Perimeter
• Finding the Area Using Square Units
• Finds the perimeter of the basic geometric figures.
• Finds the area of a given figure using square-tile units i.e.
number of square-tiles needed.
• Estimates the area of a given figure using any shape.
• Solves routine and non-routine problems involving any
figure using square tiles.
Ferdinand is making a square picture frame out of used
materials. He wants to put borders around it to make it look better
and presentable. If one side of the picture frame is 15 cm, how many
materials does he need for the border?
15 cm Solution:
P = 15 cm + 15 cm + 15 cm + 15 cm
= 60 cm
15 cm Perimeter is the
or
15 cm P = 4 x 15 cm total distance
= 60 cm around an
enclosed figure.
15 cm
Look at the figures below. Let us get their perimeter.

5 cm
a. P = 5 cm + 6 cm + 7 cm
6 cm
= 18 cm
7 cm

9 cm
b.
P = 9 cm + 4 cm + 9 cm + 4 cm
4 cm 4 cm
= 26 cm
Remember!
9 cm
To get the perimeter,
we simply add all the
length of sides.

A. Find the perimeter of the following figures.
1.
P = 3 cm + 7 cm + 6 cm + 5 cm
= 21 cm

P = 4 cm + 4 cm + 3 cm + 6 cm + 3 cm
2.
= 20 cm

A. Find the perimeter of the following figures.
3.
P = 4 cm + 4 cm + 4 cm + 4 cm
= 16 cm

P = 10 cm + 6 cm + 10 cm + 6 cm
4.
= 32 cm

Gilbert is planning to
draw a picture from the
book he is reading. So, he
has decided to draw the
picture easily.

Area = 64 square units

Area is the number of

square units occupied
by any flat surface.
Look at the figure below. Count the number of square units it has.
Get the area of the figure.
a. b.

Area = 12 square units Area = 15 + 1 ( )= 1

= 16 square units
