Reinforcing the Concept and Skill

Lorena wants to stay fit and so

she walks around the park
every day before going to
school. What is the distance
that Lorena covers every day?
How will you find the
answer to the problem?
To solve for the answer to the problem,
you add the measurements of the sides of
the park.

The park has four sides.

So,
55 m + 40 m + 65 m + 35 m = 195 m
So, Lorena walks the distance of 195 m
every day. This distance around the
park is called perimeter.

Can you think of other ways to

find the perimeter of the park?
A. Study how the perimeter
of each figure is
obtained.

Let s be the length of one side of
the equilateral triangle. If P is the
perimeter of the triangle, then

P=s+s+s
= 15 + 15 + 15
= 45 cm
15 cm

Let s be the length of one side of the

square and P be perimeter of the
square. Then,
P=s+s+s+s
= 15 + 15 + 15 + 15
= 60 cm

Let L be the length and W be the width of a

rectangle.
If P be the perimeter of the triangle then,
P = 2L + 2W
= (2 x 25) + (2 x 15)
= 80 cm

Summarizing the Lesson
The Perimeter of a closed figure is the distance around the figure.
To find the perimeter of a polygon get the sum of the lengths or measurements of
the sides.
Figure Name Formula in Finding its
Perimeter

Triangle P = s + s +s

Square P=sx4

Rectangle P=l+l+w+w
=(2 x l) + (2 x w)

Trapezoid P= a + b + c + d

Parallelogram P= a+a+b+b
= (2 x a) + (2 x b)
