Types of Cellular Respiration

Directions: Read carefully all the contents and follow the instructions indicated in this
worksheet. Answer all the provided activities.

• differentiate aerobic from anaerobic respiration STEM_BIO11/12-IIa-j-6

• and explain the major features and sequence the chemical events of cellular
respiration STEM_BIO11/12-IIa-j-7

Cellular Respiration is an activity by which the cells in body our body utilize oxygen to break
down molecules of food and release their stored energy. Aerobic respiration is considerably
more energy-efficient than anaerobic respiration. Anaerobic respiration can create a small
amount of energy but permits existence in environments which do not have oxygen.
Activity 1: Aerobic vs Anaerobic Respiration
Directions: Identify the following characteristics of aerobic and anaerobic respiration and
put a check (√) mark in the appropriate column. Write your answers in your Science
notebook.

Characteristics Aerobic Anaerobic

Respiration Respiration

1) There is a requirement of oxygen.

2) Chemical reaction happens in cytoplasm.

3) Chemical reaction takes place in mitochondria:

4) ATP is manufactured using the electron transport
chain, with inorganic molecules other than oxygen.

5) Oxygen is used to generate the small energy

molecule ATP.

6) Production of ATP: 36-38 mol ATP per 1 mol

glucose
7) Production of ATP: 2 mol ATP per 1 mol glucose
8) Ability to be sustained: Indefinitely
9) Ability to be sustained: Short Term

10) Body is required to work without oxygen in

humans.
11) Glucose and oxygen are the reactants of this
respiration.
