Introduction
According to a New Straits Times article, founding president
Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin Tuanku Muhriz stated that based on his
observations at educational institutions such as government
secondary schools, public and private universities, Malaysian
students were still hesitant to speak up, particularly in English.

Objective of study : This study attempted to understand and explain this problem; hence, it set three aims
to evaluate students’ current level of proficiency in spoken English, investigate the reasons and offer
remedies.

English as a Second Language.

Objective of study : This study investigates Malaysians’ willingness to communicate (WTC) in


English as a second language (ESL).

Findings :
The final model shows that Language learning communication strategies has a significant direct
impact on students’ WTC in English in the classroom and is considered a very effective factor in
influencing students’ WTC in English.
MacIntyre et al.’s (1998) heuristic model can strengthen future research on the ultimate
purpose of language learning.

Objective of study : The purpose of this research was to gather English as a second language (ESL)
learners perceptions pertaining to their experience in learning English language in secondary
schools, colleges and local universities.
