-Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the most important Palestinian sites and Islam’s
first Qibla. It is located in the old city of Al Quds. It is 37m high and covers an
area of 144,000m². It has a capacity of 5000 person.
-The architectural design of this Islamic treasure is extremely unique. Its
external walls and the façade were made of limestone; the interior columns were
made of white marble and mosaic whereas the iconic Dome of the Rock was
built of lead and concrete.
-In 746, the mosque was destroyed in an earthquake and rebuilt in 758 by
the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur.
-The Quran refers to Al-Aqsa Mosque as an essential place of devotion for all
the Prophets of Islam therefor all Muslims around the world hope and pray for its
freedom.
