TOURISM OPERATING SECTORS PORTFOLIO

Introduction:
A requirement for the student’s partial fulfillment of the subject Macro Perspective of
Tourism and Hospitality (MACROTH) is to come up with a portfolio or a collection of materials
that represents the student’s learnings, beliefs, experiences, creative works, etc. of the nine (9)
tourism operating sectors. These operating sectors represent the subject’s core discussion as
the students reflect on each of its importance, roles, functions, and impacts. To mention are the
following:
1. Transportation
2. Travel Trade
3. Accommodation
4. Food and Beverage
5. Attractions
6. Events
7. Adventure and Outdoor Recreation
8. Entertainment
9. Tourism Services

Project Objective:
This project aims to assess the learnings of the student and the extent of his/her
understanding of the course MACROTH. Through the content of the portfolio, the professor can
gauge the level of the student’s engagement with the course as he/she was able to carefully
elaborate on each of the sector’s importance, roles, functions, and impacts presented in the
form of a variety of materials.
The students on the other hand will be able to imbibe and appreciate the vitality of the
course and how their learnings can be applied in their succeeding Tourism major subjects and
soon in the industry as well. They will be able to develop deep enthusiasm and passion for
Tourism and Hospitality that will serve as their inspiration and motivation to continue in their
course and in achieving their dreams.

Direction and Guidelines:

● Students will compile at least three materials for each sector. Materials can come in the
form of reports, articles, research and creative works (self-made poems, songs,
illustrations/posters with interpretations, narratives/stories, etc.), current news and
developments that they find important and interesting, and contribute to their learning,
appreciation, and conception of that particular sector.
● At the end of each sector’s compilation, the student will write a 10 to 15 sentence
synthesis of the gathered materials, a personal reflection and overall take away from that
sector.
● The materials collected will be organized in a manner following the above order (from
Transportation to Tourism Services) and submitted with a cover page containing the
name of the course, title of the project, name of the student and section as submitted by,
and name of the professor as submitted to.
● The form of submission will be via the designated Dropbox in BigSky. The student can
be creative in the format and design using a preferred application or program (Canva,
Prezi, Powerpoint, etc.) as long as it will be converted to PDF upon submission.
● Do not forget to cite all the references used per sector. Ensure the originality of work,
copy/paste and/or plagiarized submission can be easily detected and might greatly affect
the student’s grade.

Criteria for Grading:

Originality 30%
Organization and Grammar 20%
Creativity 10%
