Η ΘΕΙΑ ΚΟΙΝΩΝΙΑ
Introduction
Hands up whose family invites visitors and friends to their house to eat with them?
Ask children to give examples (aunts/uncles, cousins, friends, etc). Sometimes they
may bring something to give you, for example, a dessert or even a gift.
Μάθημα
Και εμείς όταν πάμε στο σπίτι του Θεού,
δηλαδή στην εκκλησία για να προσευχηθού-
με όλοι μαζί, φέρνουμε κάτι να προσφέρου-
με στο Θεό. Τι νομίζεται ότι είναι; Φέρνου-
με το ψωμί και το κρασί.
Το πρόσφορο είναι ιδιαίτερο ψωμί. Δεν
μπορούμε να το αγοράσουμε στα μαγαζιά
όπως το ψωμί που τρώμε στο σπίτι. Πρέ-
πει να το ζυμώσουμε εμείς οι ίδιοι. Βάζου-
με και μια ιδιαίτερη σφραγίδα στη μέση, που
δείχνει ότι αυτό το ψωμί είναι για τον Χρι-
στό. Ο Θεός παίρνει τα δώρα μας και με
την Χάρη του Θεού τα μετατρέπει σε Θεία
Κοινωνία.
Όταν παίρνουμε Θεια Κοινωνία, παίρνουμε
το Χριστό μέσα μας. Αυτός μας βοηθάει να
είμαστε καλά παιδιά και μας δίνει δύναμη.
Είναι καλό να παίρνουμε Θεια Κοινωνία όσο
πιο ταχτικά μπορούμε. Πριν κοινωνήσουμε
όμως χρειάζεται να προετοιμαστούμε με
κατάλληλο τρόπο.
Lesson
When we go to God’s house - to church -
to pray all together, we also bring some-
thing to offer God. What do you think
we can bring? We bring bread and wine.
(Teacher can draw prosforo/πρόσφορο
and wine on the board, or show picture
from a book).
The prosforo is a special bread. We
can’t buy it from the shops like the
bread we use for our sandwiches! We
must make it ourselves. We press a spe-
cial stamp in the middle (teacher should
show the stamp (σφραγίδα), which shows
that this bread is for Christ. God ac-
cepts our gift and with the Grace of
God, He changes them into His holy
body, i.e. Holy Communion.
When we partake of Holy Communion,
Christ comes into us. He helps us to be
good children and He gives us strength.
It is very important that we partake of
Holy Communion as often as we can. But
before we have Holy Communion we must
prepare correctly.

Q: Πως μπορούμε να ετοιμαστούμε;
Τα μικρά μωρά που δεν καταλαβαίνουν πολλά
μπορεί να μην ξέρουν γιατί κοινωνούν. Εμείς
όμως, που είμαστε μεγαλύτεροι, είναι καλά να
προσέχουμε μερικά πράγματα.
1) Να κάνουμε την προσευχή μας και να ζητή-
σουμε συγγνώμη από τον Θεό.
2) Να ζητήσουμε συγγνώμη από τους γονείς
μας και τα αδέλφια μας.
3) Να νηστέψουμε
Q: Πως πρέπει να κοινωνήσουμε;
1) Να στεκόμαστε ήσυχα στη γραμμή
2) Να κάνουμε το σταυρό μας.
3) Να λέμε το όνομα μας στον ιερέα
4) Να ανοίγουμε το στόμα μας όσο μπορούμε
5) Όταν λάβουμε την Θεία Κοινωνία να κάνου-
με ξανά το σταυρό μας και να ευχαριστούμε
τον Θεό.
Conclusion
Όταν παίρνουμε Θεία Κοινωνία παίρνουμε τον Χριστό μέσα μας.
When we take Holy Communion, we take Christ inside us.
Q: How do you think we should prepare?
Babies who don’t really understand a lot may
not know why they have Holy Communion.
But we, who are older, should take care in
certain things.
1. We should pray beforehand and ask for
God to forgive us.
2. We should say sorry to our parents and
our siblings.
3. We should fast (i.e. no breakfast on Sun-
day morning before church)
(Can make the point that older people fast
more, e.g. no meat or dairy for a few
days before communion).
Q: How do we take Holy Communion cor-
rectly?
1. We should stand quietly in the line
2. We should make the sign of the cross
3. We should say our name in Greek to the
priest
4. We should open our mouths as wide as we
can
5. When we have had Holy Communion, we
should do our cross again and thank God.

LESSON IDEAS
If possible, the teacher should bring in a
prosforo previously made to assist with
the lesson and to show the stamp in the
middle.
For an older class, the teacher can explain
what each part of the stamp represents,
and which part of the prosforo is used
for Holy Communion.
Pre-kneaded dough could also be brought in
and the children take turns pressing the
stamp on.
