1. Title of this Senior Project shall be:


"Overhauling partially burned Engine and Transmission and make them operational"
Subtitle shall be: "Making use of a Burned Vehicle as Teaching Aid"
(Any wishes to modify the project title shall be discussed with your adviser!)

2. The above-mentioned vehicle TOYOTA (Manufacturer) Pick-Up / Hilux (Model) will


be given to the group. The vehicle is in partially destroyed condition as stated in the
attached record. Engine and transmission shall be removed from the vehicle. Any
other components shall not be touched!

3. The Senior Project includes three major jobs:


a) Overhauling of the engine according to valid technological standards
b) Overhauling of the transmission according to valid technological standards
c) Preparation of a common stand for the engine-& transmission unit

4. Technical Part: At the end of the Senior Project, both engine and transmission shall be
ready for use as teaching aids for the courses "AUT 120 - Engine Fundamentals" and
"AUT 324 - Transmission and Drive Train". This includes in detail:
a) Engine is overhauled and prepared for use - faults and remedies are identified
and listed - a reliable list of spare parts, in order to get the engine back to live
is prepared and handed over to the department - engine is mechanically ready
for teaching freshman students (at least valve & crank gear mechanism func-
tioning) - worksheets for practical teaching are prepared.
b) Transmission is overhauled and made live - faults and remedies are identified
and listed - a reliable list of spare parts in order to get the transmission back to
live is prepared and handed over to the department - transmission is ready for
teaching students - worksheets for practical teaching are prepared.
c) Stand: Both engine and transmission are as a unit on a stand (refer to the EFI-
engine as example) - all frame parts are properly welded, all welded joints are
perpendicular (90 degree) to each other - the stand is horizontally aligned and
at a height of 95 cm (to be measured from ground to upper edge of cylinder
head, tolerance +/- 2 cm; height includes mounted castor wheels) - stand is

neatly painted (primer & final paint) - stand has an information table (alu-
minum sheet) with vehicle / -engine / transmission data (manufacturer, vehicle
model, model code, engine type & code & number, transmission type & code,
frame number, year of construction, group number and group members of Se-
nior Project).

5. Pedagogical Part: Your Senior Project shall not only focus on the technical compo-
nents but you shall develop means of implementing the teaching aid to the practical
lesson. This includes detailed discussion of theoretical backgrounds of vocational
training. Further more, it shall include the findings of your own experiences of imple-
mentation of the teaching aids.

6. Last submitting date of your Senior Paper is May 30th, 2003 (Genbot 22, 1995 EC).
Last submitting date with penalty (5% deduction of the grade) will be June 6 th, 2003
(Genbot 29, 1995 EC). After this date the Senior Paper will not be graded (= 30% de-
duction).
