UNIT: Jobs and Part-time Jobs
AIMS: Students will have done reading comprehension related to ´´Jobs and Part-time Jobs´´
MATERIALS: Their books, cards with the names of several jobs
FORM OF WORK : Whole class, Group work

INTRODUCTION
- Greeting children
- Attendance check
- Question routines ( How are you?, What did you do yesterday?, etc. )

WARM-UP – Discussion on a topic ´´Jobs´´


Observing if the students can express their ideas and if they are ready for a lesson.
At home you should think about the jobs you would like to do in the future and the part-time
jobs you have ever done. – So, can you share your ideas firstly with your partner, please?
- Now, let´s discuss it together. What would you like to do in the future? Where would you
like to work?Why? Have you ever done some part-time jobs?What kind of part time job?
When? Did you like it? Etc. (5 min.)

EXERCISE 1 – Guess the names of part-time jobs

Observing how much information the students can infer from the pictures.

Open your books on page 46. There are 6 job advertisements. Have a look at them and discuss
in your pairs what kind of job they are for. – Can we check it? Why do you think it is...? What
can you see in these pictures? (4 min.)

EXERCISE 2 – Write names of the part-time jobs

Monitoring the correct names of the jobs and helping with vocab if necessary.

-Now, read the particular job advertisements and check if you guessed right. Then write down
the names of these jobs. (5 min.)

READING COMPREHENSION

Observing the students´ understanding of a text.


Students read the text about professions which is in the book. Give students some questions
related to the job advertisements to check their reading comprehension skills: -So, what extra
can you get when applying for a hairdresser´s assistant? Who are the film extras? Would you
like to act in the movie? In the advertisement for newspaper boys and girls is written that you
need to be good at getting up early. Who is good at getting up early? Etc. (6 min.)

EXERCISE 3 – Match descriptions to the jobs

Observing the students´ understanding of a text.

Children read the instructions. They have to read the text again and underline evidence.
–Ready? So, which job refers to the first statement?Why do you think so? Can you find the
evidence please? ( 6 min.)

EXERCISE 4 – Correct answers

Observing the students´ understanding of a text.

Now, work in pairs on the exercise 4. Which jobs can´t these people do? Again, underline the
evidence as well. (6 min. )

BEST JOB ADVERTISEMENTS – Vote for the best job offered in the job advertisements

-Which job from these six job advertisements would you choose?
-Let´s vote. Who would choose a hairdresser´s assistant? (write down the name of the job and
the number of students on the blackboard) Who would choose a film extra? Etc.
Those who chose a hairdresser´s assistant, tell us why would you choose this job? Etc.
(5 min.)

HOMEWORK

Prepare 16 cards with the names of the jobs (16 students) – a hairdresser´s assistant, a film
extra, a newspaper boy/girl, a restaurant assistant, a dog walker and a supermarket assistant
(the names will of course repeat on the papers, but not more than three times). Let everyone
choose one paper from a pocket. Tell them to describe the ideal person for the job they chose.
Remind them they can use the words from exercise 1 (they can help them). ( 2min.)
