Background

During the present pandemic crisis when the entire globe is sailing amid the storm, technology has
played a pivotal role. Technological development and the internet have changed the lives of people
immensely and have also brought a huge change in various fields. Especially in the education system
E-learning has been found to be a significant tool for effectively continuing the teaching-learning
process during the lockdown. The web has become one of the important mediums of learning that
opens the door for people around the world to access education easily at free or lesser cost. E-
learning has fixed it’s root specially in the field of modern education. The need of modern learners is
quite different and E- learning has been found beneficial for fulfilling their needs. The mediums of E-
learning and principles of artificial intelligence are gradually gaining popularity in the. It is providing a
solution to the learners who are unable to access the traditional means of education due to the
present pandemic situation. The present paper is going to unfold the aspects and impact of various
E-learning platforms that the educational institutes have been following globally in diverse fields
during the pandemic crisis of COVID-19. The lockdown has compelled many educational institutions
to cancel their classes, examinations, internships etc. and to choose the online modes. Initially, the
educators and the students were quite confused and didn’t understand how to cope up with the
situation of this sudden crisis that compelled closure of the educational activities. But latter on all
realized that the lockdown has taught so many lessons to manage with the emergence of such
pandemics. Thus, COVID created many challenges and opportunities for the educational institutes to
strengthen their technological knowledge and infrastructure. The lockdown has given them a ray of
hope for teachers and students to continue their educational activities through online. The teachers
assigned work to students via internet, delivered lectures trough live video conferencing using
different Apps like Zoom, Google meet, Facebook, YouTube, and Skype etc. There are WhatsApp
groups of guardians, teachers, students and parents for affective communication through which they
are always in touch to share their difficulties through this e-medium. This project is focus on impact
of online education during pandemic situation. There we are try to find out student problem which
they are facing during while attending online lectures and its impact on their understanding.

Significance of the study

This study will help to find out the students' attitudes towards e-learning during COVID – 19
Pandemic. This study was done for the students who are studying in various colleges and universities
and even schools to gain additional information regarding the contribution of e-learning during this
pandemic. It can be a learning paradigm in educational institutions to enhance the student's
knowledge and skills through digital technologies.
This study will help to find out what are the problems with students and understanding of students
during online lectures. This pandemic situation was challenging for each one of us from students to
teachers, here we try to find out how effective online learning/E-learning are for students. We try to
find out student's level of understanding in online learning.

Need of the study

The need for studying this topic arises because implementation of lockdown and social distancing
has been enforced as one of the preventive measures to spread the corona virus infection which has
resulted in complete paralysis of activities. Especially the education system which is completely shut
and to proceed with the academic curriculum, there is a shift from the regular learning process to
electronic learning. This can be cited with an increased number of online classes, conferences,
meetings, etc. It can be noted that the world is completely dependent on information technologies
during this crisis. Hence, the present study we try to find of what was the impact of online education
on students. In this pandemic we see students face lot of problem while attending lectures and
understanding the subject. This study helps to understand these factors.

Scope of study
 The study is carried out in Mumbai city

 It gives information on how E-learning various impact of COVID-19 on education and identify
students’ level of understanding in online education.

 It gives a clear picture of effectiveness of E-learning and problems and challenges face by
students in online education.

 This study will help you to understand effect of online education on students.

5
Aims and Objective of the study

objectives:
 To find the advantages of E-learning.
 To identify student's level of understanding in online education.
 To find the effectiveness of online education.
 To study the effect of online education on students.
 To identify problems and challenges face by students in online education.

As we all know that the corona virus is a Life-threatening disease which has claimed millions
of lives the globe and it has also crucially affected all the educational institutions like that of
school, colleges and universities whose functions were abruptly halted as the Government
of India announced complete nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus (24rd
of march 2020). According to UNESCO, close to 900 million learners have been affected by
the closure of educational institutions. On one hand this shutdown helped to reduce the
death rate by social distancing nit on the other hand all the works like that of the teachers
are facing economic uncertainty. Students who never experienced home schooling before
are forced to be tutored and home schooled by parents. Even the parents are experiencing
the whole new role, i.e. the role of a teacher as they had to step in the shoes of professional
academicians. Apart from drastic change in normal life of society , the student's normal way
of schooling too has been jeopardized in many ways such as; learning with peer, group
discussions, brainstorming sessions, practical experiments and import events, co- curricular
and extra-curricular activities which play a vital role to enhance the metal and physical
growth of students. Due to this pandemic, we had to move from conventional educational
system to online mode. Online classes have both advantages and disadvantages and we will
discuss them both.

6
Role of E- learning in COVID-19 crisis

Education is one of the key factors in building a good nation. The outbreak of the COVID-19
virus has caused a sudden suspension of schools, colleges, universities, and other
government institutions. Amid these hard times, teachers have been utilizing e-learning
platforms to impact education to the students. E-learning refers to a leaning system that is
conducted via electronic media. It was first used in 1999 at a CBT systems seminar. It is also
described as virtual or online learning.

It offers a way to share reading materials using internet through emails, documents,
presentations or webinars. IT has become an important part of modern education and it
shows huge involvement of ICT in the present teaching- learning process Educators can
share study materials and lectures in the form of PPT, PDF or Word Document by uploading
the them on their respective university web- pages on Whatsapp or through e-mail to
maximum students during this lockdown. According to Felix, (2020), Lectures have been
also taken through WeChat, by sharing audio-visual video through e-mails, by different
online teaching apps like Zoom, Teams, g-suite could meeting and so on. The development
in technologies has offered a favorable domain for teaching- learning processes. It offers
teacher to changes their pedagogical approaches. It enhances the teaching and learning
procedures. The teachers can motivate students to enhance their learning skills through
innovative ways. E-learning has brought a huge changes in the traditional method of teacher
and learning. Due to ongoing of COVID-19 an increased number of students are found of use
the learning platform and app. Some of the platforms are already established like ED-TECH
and could computing as they are available in reasonable prices and are easy to access.

Educational institutes during the pandemic crisis

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, educational institutions from all round the world
have migrated from the traditional method of learning to imparting education through
online means. The education system has been suddenly shifted from the conventional
classroom environment to electronic devices and online applications Most universities in

7
India have asked the Professors and students to opt for e- learning platforms for education
purposes and to motivate students to study from their respective residents. The faculty
members were urged to provide study materials in the form of PPT, PDFs or Word
documents and other forms such as audio, videos, to upload on online platforms. Chinese
universities have implemented online education since the starting of the 21st century. With
the widespread of the virus, educational procedures have been accomplishment via like
Zoom and Google Meet. Various undergraduate and graduate course have been provided
to students through online means. Students have been using online platforms and
applications since the global lockdown. Mostly apps like Google classroom, Teams and
Zoom have been used to fulfil the academic needs. The outbreak of the Pandemic has
caused the association to offer efficient learning through online mode of education. Virtual
seminars and discussions are been conducted to help the students to cope with ongoing
tough times.

Advantages of E- learning
E-learning fulfils the needs of today's learners at their own comfort and requirements.
Thus, it has prove to be fruitful because of various reasons. It can be availed at any time at
the learner's own convenience by purchasing the subscriptions of different platforms or
logging in to access the courses. It can share and offer teaching- learning materials in
diverse such as slideshows, audios, videos, PDFs, e-mails, word documents and so on.
Webinars and direct communication with teachers via various chat forums or messaging is
also an open option in E-learning process. It offers free access to certain e- manuals like
PDF's. It provides clear, easy, gradual instructions for better understanding of the learners.
It is often regarded as the most suitable way for self- learning. It provides a wide range of
materials for the learners that learners that covers almost all topics and doubts.

Advantages of E-learning
 Convenience
 Flexibility
 Cost- Effective
 Fun and easy

8
 Availability of Resources
 Personalized Guidance
 Availability of Instructor
 Group Communication
 Accessibility
 Quick Delivery
 Less Impact on Environment
 Improves retention quality
 Technical skills
 Improves Self Discipline

E- learning are more convenient that of class room teaching. This is because the students
are at home and their environment is so familiar that they are at ease. They do not have the
inner fear that sometimes make them dull at learning in classroom teaching environment.
This is because they are in a place that is close to them and so they tend to be more
attentive and attentive and active in their participation.

E-learning are cost effective as the students are at home and they do not have any
maintenance or transport or miscellaneous charges that is actually required in conventional
classes. All the resources that the students require are all easily available and so it makes it
easier for them to learn. In a classroom environment, a teacher cannot focus on all the
students at the same time but in E-learning the teacher can have one on one session with
the students. This plays the role of removing the embarrassing situation, especially
introvert students, which does not happen in conventional classroom as the students has to
face his peer while clearing his individual doubts and questions. Availability of the teacher
in E- learning is one of the important factors as it works as an advantage in making the
students feel that they are given priority while conducting sessions. We are living in a world
that has given us the gift of Information and Communication Technology which when
integrated with education system can boost up the teaching- learning process to a different
dynamic scope. At any given point of time the teacher an mention his or her available which
in turn will be very fruitful and valuable for the students. In a class room environment,

9
students are very easily prone to distractions therefore leading to miscommunication and
misinterpretation of any given topic; hence paralyzing a good communication progression.
E-learning give the flexibility in managing sessions with students with no time- bound
restrictions which become second important advantages of online teaching- learning
process.
The students can easily access to all the materials that they need as per their syllabus. The
teachers can quickly deliver the lessons without any interruption and at the same time they
can create forum for an open discussion and provide questions and assignments at the same
time. The pandemic has changed the course of normalcy in Education Sector but at the
online teaching- learning process has indirectly made the teacher-students to help in healing
the environment with less usage and hassle of paper work. In this pandemic, other such
resources such as transportation, fuel, accommodation and cost- effective materials has
been minimized. This results in judicious use of resources having less impact on the
environment.

Feedback and assessment are also made easy by E-leaning. All the classes and seminars can
be accessed repeatedly as and when required by the students at any given point of time.
One of the best advantage of online class is that students can improvise on their technical
skills. Finally, it improves the self- discipline of the students. Even though there are many
advantages, still the disadvantage has to be taken into account.

Disadvantages of E-learning
 Online student feedback is limited
 Online Learning can cause social isolation
 Online Learning requires strong self- motivation and time management skills
 Lack of communicational skill development in online students
 Cheating prevention during online assessments is complicated
 Online instructors tend to focus on theory rather than practice
 Online Learning lack interpersonal communication
 Online Learning is limited to certain disciplines
 Online learning is inaccessible to the computer illiterate population

10
 Lack of accreditation and quality assurance in online education.

The important factor of disadvantage of online teaching- learning process is that there is
limited scope of student's feedback. E-learning can cause social isolation. The students have
no space for communication among their peer groups. They come online when their classes
start, they attend the session and then they logout. Hence, they have no time to
communicate with one another which in turn causes social isolation. With these classes the
students have no room for self- motivation, as it intake of the lesson or the massage is
uncertain. When the students attend school, they have a disciplined life. They have to
come school on time and they have follow certain rules and regulation. But when it comes
to E-learning, they lack the time management skill and ethical conduct, which is very
important in a student's life.
When it comes to E-learning, students lack active communication skill with other peers. In
schools, the students communicate with their teachers and peer which is absent in online
mode. Interpersonal communication is must to improve day to day social life as the saying
goes "Man is by nature a Social Animal- Aristotle". Since all the assessments are done
online the prevention of malpractice is at stake. This is because the teacher cannot do
anything other than instruct. Students on the other hand are staying in their own
comfortable zone which in turn makes it easier for them to indulge in such unethical
activities, which will affect their long-term learning process.
E-learning are basically theoretical. The teachers can only lecture on the topic and they
cannot practically teach them. The students on the other hand can only learn the theory
part of the lessons and the practical part is left out. Face to face communication is also not
possible with E-learning. Online teaching are limited, the teachers nor the students can do
any practical or research works. Even though we are many who lives below the poverty line.
Not all are literate. One cannot deny the fact that there are still many people who are not
well familiar with the modern equipment and latest technologies and those who could not
afford to buy them, which creates disparity amongst students. Recently in a report covered
by NDTV, a student, residing in Malappuram district of Kerala, committed suicide by
torching herself to death because her family could not afford a smart phone for her E-
learning. Such case of students taking drastic steps of committing suicide were reported
from across the country.

11
Everyone does not have the privilege to afford gadgets for their E-learning and many
students are facing hurdles of bad network connectivity in this pandemic situation. Finally,
the quality education that the educational that the educational institution wants to impart
to their students cannot be fulfilled to the maximum level because of such prevailing issues.
With this all the educational institutions have no other options but to go on with E- learning.
Before COVID, when students were going to school, they had certain curriculum which had
to be followed and in turn it helped them not only in academic field but also in
extracurricular activities to enhance their skill development. But post COVID, the
educational institutions are adapting to new ways of imparting education by integrating
latest Information and Communication Technologies Learning process.

Challenges of E-Learning

Due to the pandemic crisis, there has been a huge, disruptive shift from existing educational
system to online education system. An online courses requires details lesson plans to
design good
study materials. Certain challenges of online education include, lack of online teaching skill
in educators, online preparation of lesson plans as it is very time-consuming, lack of
appropriation support from the technical teams, and traffic overload in online educational
platforms. Not only the teachers but the students are also facing challenges due to
deficiency of proper learning attitude, lack of suitable material for learning. more
involvement in classroom learning, incapability of self- discipline and the inadequate
learning environment at some of their homes during self- isolation.

12
Beneficial role of E-learning platform during the pandemic

E-learning has specially proven to be beneficial during this COVID- 19 crisis. More students
have opted to Ed-tech and other online platform for education during this ongoing
pandemic. Online platforms like Vedantu, Unacademy and learn comfortably from homes
and a significant elevation in students have been recorded for using these educational apps.
Educators of the online platforms have also started to take more live classes. Furthermore,
Vedantu has been offering free access to live classes to students. Another online platform
Coursera has declared free access to its courses to many universities in the world till 31st
July. Sc Edu page cloud-based web portal unity and a mobile app have been widely used at
1,50,000 schools in around 173 counties across the globe for the education management
with free access and user- friendly functionality. The app includes features like curriculum
management, attendance control, time- table automation, homework assigning, messaging
features and grading parents can also communicate with the teachers by using app.

Instructional strategies to improve students engagement during E- learning

The following instructional strategies can improve the E- learning efficiencies of the students
when educators implement them efficiently. For the accomplishment of large- scale online
education, it is very essential to generate advance contingency plan to overcome the
technical problems like traffic overload in the online education platforms. Education have
divided the teaching material into several smaller modules to enhance the focus of students
and to ensure their better understanding. Faculty members have appropriately dropped the
speed of their speech to drag their attention, allow them to note down the key points from
the lectures and the ob down the necessary information from the board in an audio visual
lecture. Inexperienced faculty members consulted online teaching assistants to ensure the
objectives and need of each every class that has to be taken by them. Educators have
modified their various teaching techniques by providing creative and skilful assignments
that can fulfilled the learning requirement of the students for a engaging them during the
online classes. The faculty incorporated online teaching methods and self- studying.

13
Professors can engage students in discussion to encourage their perspectives and can
provide feedback on their assignments. Through this mode of teaching students will not
learn surface, ambiguous and fragmented knowledge. Instead, the students would
experience thorough learning diverse discussion. Insufficient pre-class study preparation,
limited participation in class discussions, and inadequate discussion depth are common
phenomena in traditional in- class teaching, similarly, ithose issue should not be overlooked
in online teaching. The difficultly, length and quality of teaching material should match the
students online learning behavioural characteristics and academic readiness. Timely
feedback should be shared by the educators with their students to motivate them Educators
should provide email guidance within and after class as well as online audio- visual tutoring.
IT is always advisable to adopt few measures for the improvement of students in depth
participation in online classes. This would help in generation high- quality participation of
students. Student's mental health should be taken into consideration and various suitable
measures should be taken by the educators to relieve their mental stress and anxieties
during the COVID-19 crisis, to ensure that the students could regularly, effectively and
actively participate in their online learning session

Initiatives of Govt. of India on education during Covid-19

To prevent spread of pandemic COVID-19, the Government of India has taken number of
preventive measures. The union government declared a country wide lockdown of all
educational institutions on 16 March 2020. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
postponed all examinations of secondary and higher secondary schools on March 18, 2020
throughout India. CBSE released revised guidelines for examination centres to conduct
examination by maintaining a distance of at least 1 meter between the students taking the
exam with a class not having more than 24 students. If the rooms of the examination
centres are small then the students should be divided in different rooms accordingly. The
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) postponed the interview for the Civil Services
Examination 2019 (Wikipedia). Similarly, the most of the state Government and other
educational board postponed examinations due to outbreak of COVID-19. Govt. of India has
observed one day nationwide Janta curfew on March 22 and implement lockdown from
March 25,2020 onwards in different phases. Govt. of India has been extending lockdown

14
periods from time to time adopted different strategies to fight with the pandemic but
educational institutions remained closed continuously. The lockdown 6.0 was declared on
June,29 which is effective from 1st July to 31st July 2020 with some les restriction in other
sectors except education. Almost all state except education. Almost all state government
ministries have taken measures to ensure that the academic activities of school and colleges
do not hamper during the lockdown period. They have instructed the school o hold all their
classes online. The lockdown has accelerated adoption of digital technology. It has
provided a change to develop new and improved professional skills knowledge through
online learning in more efficient and productive way. Online learning is the best solution
during the pandemic COVID-19situation (Pravat, 2020b). so, the digital India vision of the
government is emerging as a vital tool for solving the present crisis due to Covid-19. It is a
fact technology based education is more transparent with all respect. Looking at this
challenges of colleges and schools being shut, government of India, as well as state
governments and private players have undertaken proper initiatives. The Ministry of
Human Resource Development (MHRD) has made several arrangement, including online
portals and educational channels through Direct to Home TV, Radios for students to
continue learning. During lockdown, students are using popular social media tools like
Whats App, Zoom, Google meet, Telegram, Youtube live, Facebook etc. for online teaching
learning system. ICT initiative of MHRD is a unique platform which combines all digital
resources for online education. The digital initiatives of MHRD for secondary as well as

higher education during COVID-19 are listed as below: Secondary education Diksha portal

Positive impact of COVID-19 on education

Though the outbreak of COVID-19 has created many negative impacts on education,
education institutions of India have accepted the challenges and trying their best to provide
seamless support services to the students during the pandemic. Indian education system

16
got the opportunity for transformation from traditional system to a new era. The following
points may be considered as the positive impacts.

 Move towards Blended Learning: COVID-19 has accelerated adoption of digital

technologies to deliver education. Educational institutions moved towards blended
mode of learning. It encouraged all teachers and students to become more
technology savvy. New ways of delivery and assessments of learning opened
immense opportunities for a major transformation in the area of curriculum
development and pedagogy. It also gives access to large pools of learners at a time.
 Rise in use of Learning Management systems: Use of Learning management systems
by educational institutions became a great demand. It opened a great opportunity
for the companies those have been developing and strengthening learning
management systems for the use educational institutions.
 Enhance the use of soft copy of learning material: In lockdown situation students
were not able to collect the hard copies of study material and hence most of the
students used of soft copies material for reference.
 Improvement in collaborative work: There is a new opportunity where
collaboration teaching and learning can take on new forms. Collaborations can also
happen among faculty across the world to benefit from each other.
 Rise in online meetings: The pandemic has created a massive rise in teleconference,
virtual meetings, webinars and e- conferencing opportunities.
 Enhance Digital Literacy: The pandemic situation induced people to learn and use
digital technology and resulted in increasing the digital literacy.
 Improved the use of electronic media for sharing information: Learning materials
are shared among the students easily and the related queries are resolved through
e-mail, SMS, phone calls and using different social medias like Whatsapp or
Facebook.
 World exposure: Educators and learners are going opportunities to interact with
peer from around the world. Learners adopted to an international community.
 Better time management: Students are able to manage their time more efficiently
in online education during pandemics.

17
 Demand for Open and Distance Learning (ODL): During the pandemic situation
most of the students preferred ODL mode as it encourages self learning providing
opportunities to learn from diverse resources and customized learning as per their
needs.

Negatives impact of COVID-19 on education

Education sector has suffered a lot due to the outbreak of COVID-19. It has created many
negative impacts on education and some of them are as pointed below:
 Educational activity hampered: Classes have been suspended and exam at different
levels postponed. Different boards have already postponed the annual entrance
tests. Admission process got delayed. Due to the full academic year of 2020-21
which is going to further deteriorate the situation of continuity in educational and
the as students would face much difficulty in resuming schooling again after a huge
gap.
 Impact on employment: Most of the recruitment got postponed due to COVID-19
placements for students may also be affected with companies delaying the on board
of students. Unemployment rate is expected to be increased due to this pandemic.
In India, there is no recruitment in govt. sector and fresh graduates fear withdrawal
of their job offers from private sectors because of the current situation. The Centre
for Monitoring Indian Economy's estimates on unemployment shot up from 8.4% in
mid- March to 23% in early April and the urban unemployment rate to 30.9%
(Educationasia.in). When the unemployment increases then the education gradually
decreases as people struggle for food rather than education.
 Unprepared teacher/ students for online education: Not all teachers/ students are
good at it or at least not all of them were ready for this sudden transition from face
to face learning to online learning. Most of the teachers are just conducting lecture
on video platforms such as Zoom, Google meet etc. Which may not real online
learning without any dedicated online learning platform.
 Reduced global employment opportunity: Some may lose their jobs from other
countries and the pass out students may not get their job outside India due to
restrictions caused by COVID-19. Many Indians might have returned home after

18
losing jobs overseas due to COVID-19. Hence, the fresh students who likely to enter
the job market shortly may face difficulty in getting suitable employment. Many
students who have already get job through campus interviews may not be able to
join their jobs due to lockdown. The Indians who have been doing their jobs abroad
may lose their jobs. Recent graduated in India are of also fearing for withdrawal of
job offers from corporate sectors because of movement restriction in the current
pandemic situation.
 Increased responsibility: Parents to educate their wards: Some educated parents
are able to guide but some may not have the adequate level of education needed to
teach children in the house.
 Loss of nutrition due to school closure: Mid-day meals is a school meal programmed
of the Government of India which is designed to provide better the nutritional food
to school- age children nationwide. The closure of school has serious implications in
the daily nutrition of students as the mid- day meal schemes have temporarily been
shut. Various studies have pointed out that mid-day meals are also an important
contributing factor for increased enrolment in the schools.
 Access to digital world: As many students have limited or no internet access and
many students may not be able to afford computer, laptop or supporting mobile
phones in their homes, online teaching- learning may create a digital divide among
students. The lockdown has hit the poor students very hard in India as most of them
are unable to explore online learning according to various reports. Thus the online
teaching- learning method during pandemic COVID-19 may enhance the gap
between rich/ poor and urban/ rural.
 Access to global education: The pandemic has significantly disrupted the higher
education sector. A large number of Indian students who are enrolled in many
University aboard, especially in worst affected countries are now leaving those
countries and if the situation persists, in the long run, a there will be a significant
decline in the demand for international higher education.
 Payment of schools college's fee got delayed: During this lockdown most of the
parents will be facing the unemployment situation so they may not be able to pay
the fees for the that particular time periods which may affect the private institutes,
integrated with a present day mainstream higher education system.

 Govt and educational institutes should plan to continue the educational activities
maintaining social distancing. 30-40% students and teachers may attend
schools/colleges in two shifts per day to carry on educational activities by objectives
by obeying guidelines for COVID- 19.
 At current times, access to technology and internet is an urgent requirement. So,
the digital capabilities and the required infrastructure much reach to the remotest
and poorest communities to facilitate the students to continue their education
during the pandemics. There is a need to delay public funds to fix the internet gap
and ensure that students continue to learn digitally. The state governments/ private
organizations should come up with ideas to address this issues of digital education.
 Some significant issues associated with distance learning strategies like the
availability and access to digital devices with internet connectivity, families and
students to operate and navigate digital device, and engaging lesson plans for
disabled students and other marginalised group should be addressed by Govt. and
the stakeholders.
The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Learning Process

The implementation of online learning is mostly carried out using the WhatsApp application
with the consideration that n average teacher and students or parents of students have this
application on each gadget. This application has WhatsApp Group feature so that teachers
and students can discuss and share documents with each other. The teacher users this
feature to share learning material documents and assignments for students, then students
will send the assignments they have completed through this group as well. Things that need
to be considered are assignments accompanied by monitoring and assistance by the
teacher. The step taken is for the teacher to ask for help from parents and older students as
contact points with advance notification via WhatsApp Group. In addition, it is also
necessary to include coordination and interaction between teachers and parents of students
in the form of video calls and photos of documentation of students learning activities at
home as a form of reporting that students are actually carrying out learning at home.
According to revealed some of the challenges and obstacles experienced by students,
teachers and parents in online learning. Challenges related to students are limited

20
communication and outreach among students, higher challenges for students with special
educational needs, and longer screening times. Parents saw problem as being more related
to a lack of discipline at home learning, more time spent helping their children study at
home especially for children under grade 4 in Primary School, lack of technology skills and
heavy internet bills. According to, teachers identify more challenges and obstacles,
including some restrictions in the choice of teaching method that usually apply in regular
face to face classes, less curriculum material coverage, lack of technological skill that hinder
the potential for online learning, lack of ability- multiple sources in Indonesian resulting in
more time needed to developed e-content, longer screen time as a result of creating e-
content and providing feedback on students work, more intense and time-consuming
communication with parents, challenges for better coordination with teachers, principle,
and higher internet bills. According to online classes in the time of COVID are expensive.
There are several things to consider for better teaching in the online classroom learning
process. Recorded videos can help with leaning if the internet connection id delayed. Make
sure the video frame is recorded by the teacher's face, so that students understand better
when the class is running. A video of less than 10 minutes is sufficient to cover the material.
If the material is getting longer, consider creating a series of instructional videos. Consider
having legible text on a small screen. Optimize the available videos instead of creating new
ones. Put the video in open access instruct students not only to watch but also, they try to
follow the instructions given. Create a good interactive lesson set to promote student's
critical thinking. Arrange a quiz to get answers from the sources provided. Use an
automated system to attend classes and grade tests. Provide options for conference
meeting. This allows students to have responsibility for learning and to manage their
internet connection. Let them do small group discussions to keep the social aspect. Show
the truth to the teacher. This aids students emotional learning and will encourage them to
support the learning process together. Consider drilling activities to find appropriate
learning processes in class. and asking parents to support the online learning process.

The challenges of this online learning process. Due to the slow network, the information or
material that is conveyed takes a long time to be received by parents, or vice versa. This is
also a factors of distance and network limitations in the environment where the students
live. Respondents stated that in Learning, the material presented was sometimes not in line

21
with what the teacher targeted. Responded added even in collecting assignments, it was
overwhelming to give a period of time due to various reasons given by students. Judging
from one of the influencing factors, the internet quota is the main obstacle in the online
learning process, because the internet quote accommodates the smooth learning process
online. The challenge for teachers in the online learning process is the assignment given to
students are not entirely students who do, there is parents interference in the assignment
process. However, there are also parents who are not able to make peace at home, so no
one can help accommodate the learning facilities for students. "Students sometimes do
assignments, they are not completely doing it or there are also parents who are not at
home, so no one can help in accommodating students learning facilities", Respondents put
forward the limitations of media when online learning is implemented, he also added that
they are still there are students and parents who are not tech literate. A study states that
activities in teaching are not easy to facilitate. However, the combination of alignment and
misalignment modes of instructions is seen as a way of supporting learning in technology
when face to face is not option. Online learning provides broad benefits, namely that it can
reach all regions, however in other finding it is stated that are several obstacles faced in
several regions of Indonesia, in which the spread and affordability of internet services has
been slow at times. Also, if multiple platforms are used in one group, it will cause overload.
As well as the challenges felt by the implementation of online learning is the absence of an
appropriate curriculum in a situation like this, the availability of inadequate facilities and
infrastructure, such as technology and internet network and the readiness of human
resources themselves, one of which is educators. So that the conditions currently being
faced have made it imperative for teachers and teachers to be more adoptive and innovate.
Moreover, coupled with the uneven distribution of teachers. Teachers are focused on
urban areas, while in rural area they face more obstacles. With the implementation of this
online learning, we keep teachers and students close through instant messaging platform
communication. The most important thing is that the challenge is still being evaluated in

order to get maximum learning and create independent learning skill in this pandemic.

of E- learning, student's interest in using E-learning resources, and their
performance. In conclusion, this study showed that E-Learning has become quite
popular among the students, the lockdown period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 COVID-19 has impacted immensely to the education sector of India. Though it has
created many challenges, various opportunities are also evolved. Even if the COVID-
19 crisis stretches longer, there is an urgent need to take efforts on maximum
utilisation of online platforms so that students not only complete their degree in this
academic year but also to get ready for the future digital oriented environment. The
concept of "work from home" has greater relevance in such pandemic situation to
reduce spread of COVID-19. India should develop creative strategies to ensure that
all students must have sustainable access to learning during pandemic COVID-19.
The Indian policies must include various individuals from diverse backgrounds
including remote region. Marginalised and minority group for effective delivery of
education. As online practice is benefiting the students immensely, it should be
continued after the lockdown.
