How to Study the Bible (Sir Edgar Sibonga)

CHAPTER SUMMARY FORM

Chapter: 2 Timothy 2 Read 5 times ✓
1- Caption (Title): “BE STRONG (in the Lord)”
2- Contents
There are 4 headings in the chapter as I read the Bible & they are:
a. Be strong in the grace of Christ (v 1-7)
b. The Word of God is not bound (v 8-13)
c. Work for God’s approval (v 14-21)
d. Flee youthful lust (v 22-26)

3- Chief People
Paul & Timothy
Paul was admonishing Timothy.
4- Choice Verse
2 Timothy 2:19
“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth
them that are His and, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from
iniquity.”
5- Crucial Word(s)
Be strong (v.1)
Soldier (v. 3, 4)
Endure (v. 3, 10)
6- Challenges
Need to search a bit more about Hymenaeus and Philetus in v. 17.
“And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;”

7- Cross-References
Strong (v.1)
1 Timothy 4:13 “Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”
2 Peter 1:10 “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and
election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:”

Hymenaeus (v.17)
1 Timothy 1:20 “Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto
Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.”

1
Knoweth (v.19)
Nahum 1:7 “The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them
that trust in him.”
John 10:14, 27 “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine…
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”

Apt (v.24)
Titus 1:9 “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by
sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”

8- Christ Seen
(v.13) God remains faithful even if we are not.
(v.24-25) As the Lord Jesus is, we should also be kind to everybody, also gentle, humble,
& patient to others.
9- Central Lesson(s)
To be strong in the Lord by staying close to Him through His Word because His Word is
sure. Strive to live a life according to His Word that no matter what difficulties we go
through in life, we should never forget that we are already His & He is always with us.
We should always be reminded that we should constantly pursue righteousness, faith,
love & peace as we live our lives as God’s witnesses.
10- Conclusion
Christian life is difficult. Most of the time it’s a constant struggle for me to keep my
Christian life in-line with God’s Word especially with the daily trials including the
stresses within the household. One thing I would like to address with this study is my
relationship with my teenage kids. I usually lose my temper with them which I find very
challenging in leading them to the Lord or in teaching them how to serve the Lord. I will
have to strive harder in becoming a good witness of God to my kids. I will start by
speaking gently to them when things need to be settled to avoid squabbles.
