Welcome to a deeper dive into the practice of Gatka Marhatti training.
Once you have mastered the basic GATKA body movements and are familiar with the different marhatti (Gatka stick) spins, you may want
to try this form, or pattern / sequence. A great solo exercise, using a series of moves.
It is a determined pattern of movement that will set in your psyche , the Flow of spins with smooth coordination and natural balance .
Once mastered it opens the door to the practice of undetermined , not pre-set and improvisational combinations of spins we call :
(( FREE FLOW ))
Interestingly, the practice of this pattern after a while will become (( FREE FLOW )), enjoyable and fully HERE & NOW!
It is an active dynamic meditation. Calm and focused , breathing naturally , in and out through the nose , mouth closed.
Instructions: Practice in a safe and big enough , undisturbed open space ( minimum 6 feet x 6 feet ) ( 8' x 8' preferable ) away from
You can use an escrima stick to get use to moving & spinning ( just hold the escrima stick in the middle), and then switch later to a full
Gatka stick (Marhatti) ( escrima stick is about 1/2 the lenght of a marhatti ). Same spins with either sticks. Small spins or bigger spins.

THERE are the 5 basic types of Marhatti SPINS ( 1A, 1B, 2 , 3A , 3B ) for this particular form / pattern. This form will use both hands
(one hand at a time ) and cover: front, back and sides. The complete Gatka Sphere ( 360 degrees ) becomes active and vibrant.

2. Infinity Spin * Reverse * ( 1 hand only ) 3. Wheel Spin ( 2 hands rotation ) A and B

( Happens when Marhatti rotates in changing hands )
( Done at chest level horizontal ) A. Marhatti goes from one hand to the other Single Rotation ( # 2 & # 6 )
B. and in this situation , back to original hand Double Rotation ( # 4 & # 8 )
From the basic Pantra ( 4 equal squares ) to ( 6 equal squares ) becomes an extended Pantra
9 foot positions ( R = Right Foot L = Left Foot )
with 11 separate Marhatti moves ( a combination of 1A, 1B, 2, 3 A, 3 B.)
At first practice one step at a time 1...2...3... , do the spinning with your marhatti and when comfortable add
another step and do the required spin or spins. Step 1 to step 9. Gradual progression.
When you can tie in all the steps / spins like the links in a chain and move smoothly throught the entire
pattern / form, now you can move and spin at the same time.
