From Miss Andrew, Why is this helpful?

Greetings parents and guardians! This school
year we will be using two new types of
technology in the classroom. I am taking the
moment now to introduce everyone to
GeoGebra and DeltaMath. These are two free
resources that students will be using to practice
graphing and solving math. These two websites
give a great visual representation of the topics.
These online platforms require for students to
create an account. They will use their school
email and join my class on the websites.
Students will practice graphing linear
equations with unique slopes without having
to worry about neatly drawing the graph on
paper. The scales are written on the x and y-
coordinates for students, they do not need to
worry about the scale. This mitigates issues
with students penmanship and allows them
to focus on the new skill. Students work will be
graded immediately by the website and they
will know whether or not they are graphing
correctly.

GeoGebra in Class
Graphing Linear Functions

Students will be learning how to graph linear

functions very soon. Students will use GeoGebra at
the start of every class to practice graphing
neatly. Using GeoGebra makes graphing
accessible for all students. gives students the
opportunity to focus on really understanding
slope-intercept form. They will have the chance to
work in small groups and discover how the slope
affects graphs. After mastering this students will
to identify the relationship with the slopes of
parallel and perpendicular lines. Lastly, they will
learn how to solve system of equations using the
graphing method.

Once our scholars wrap up graphing linear
equations they will begin solving linear
equations. DeltaMath is extremely helpful
because it has a large variety of problems
and can give students immediate feedback.
When assigned problems on DeltaMath
students can attempt the problems multiple
times and not get points deducted. This will
keep students motivated to keep practicing. I
suggest that students write out steps on a
sheet of paper and do not complete the
steps in their head.
Why is this helpful?
Students are able to work on problems at their own
pace. Students will be capable of completing
classwork and homework independently. Tools like
hints and problem breakdowns with all of the steps
will be beneficial for students. Students are
encouraged to write all of the steps down in their
notebooks. I can see how many times a student
attempted a problem. In the next class i can review
the challenging problems. DeltaMath allows for me
to give targeted practice.

DeltaMath in Class
Solving System of Equations
Students will be learning how to solve system of
equations. Solving systems can have multiple
steps and it is important that students do not skip
steps when solving. Students will already know
how to solve system of equations using the
graphing method and will continue to learn the
elimination and substitution method. DeltaMath
will be able to give instant feedback that will help
the student recognize the mistake or skipped step.
There are multiple ways lines can be represented
and students will need to know all three ways:
slope intercept form, standard form, and point
slope form.
