Specification for Lifeboat Dragon 26 T

FRP construction of hull, inner liner and canopy

All major FRP parts of the boat are manufactured in hand-lay-up-method without use of sandwich
materials. The components are laminated with glass mats and rovings by use of fire retardant
polyester resin. The outside surface is made from isophtalic gelcoat.
All required areas are strengthened by laminated girders, all fitting areas are reinforced by metal
backplates.
Air cases formed by hull and hull inner liner are filled with polyurethane foam, increasing the
strength of the structure and providing safety against sinking of the boat even when the hull has
been heavily damaged. Air cases formed by canopy and canopy inner liner guarantee self righting
also in damaged condition or with open hatches.

Doors, hatches and windows

One FRP door are arranged on the boat.
One forward and one aft hatch are provided as emergency escape and for access to the hoisting
hooks. The hatches are made from FRP with translucent areas, they have a securing device for
the open position and a clear opening of min. 600x600mm.
Front, side and rear windows are installed in the helmsman dome, providing good view to all
around.

Seats
The seats are mainly integrated in the hull inner liner. Each seat position is marked and equipped
with seat belts and head cushions.

Inventory box
The inventory is stowed in two boxes arranged below forward seats. Easy access is provided
through watertight hatches. Water rations are stowed in water canisters, each one canister of 30
liters is provided for 10 persons. These canisters will not be damaged if the water is frozen. They
are stowed and secured separately in the aft area of the boat.

Hoisting hooks
The boats are equipped with Fassmer Duplex hoisting hooks made from stainless steel and
special brass.
A central release device with hydrostatic interlock is fitted at the helmsman position.
The hooks can only be released when the boat is waterborne by means of a water-pressure
activated securing device. In emergency cases, however, the hooks can also be released under
load by breaking a safety glass and removing a securing pin. (Onload/offload release device
according to SOLAS 83, Chapter III, Reg. 41.7.6)
After release the hooks return automatically to their closed position. Simply by returning the
release lever into resting position, the hooks are secured again for hoisting back into the Davits.
The hoisting hooks have additional eyes for transportation of the boat or for use of hanging-off
pendant. An outlet for davit brake wire is provided near helmsman position.

Hoisting anchors
The outside fitted parts of forward and aft hoisting anchor are made of stainless steel. The interior
mounted parts are made of galvanized steel.

Specification for Lifeboat Dragon 26 T

Skates
Elastic fenders with sliding skates are provided at the ships side of the boat providing good
protection of the crew during impacts against the shipside.
As the fender system is arranged above the water line it can be permanently installed.

Colours
Colour outside: canopy = orange RAL 3031 hull = orange RAL 3031
Colour inside: canopy = grey RAL 7035 flooring = grey RAL 7035

Lettering and marking

The ships name, home port and boat number are marked on the canopy on both sides. The call
sign is marked on top of the canopy to be seen from above.
Operating instructions for boat, engine and release device are fitted inside the boat. All important
items are provided with pictograms easily to be understood and additional English description.

Propulsion
A water-cooled boat diesel engine with reverse and reduction gear is installed. A minimum speed
of 6 knots also with engaged spray system is guaranteed.
Engine starting is managed electrically, using two independent batteries. A 12V generator is
charging the batteries and feeding the consumers during the boat service.
The engine control is done by single lever operation from the helmsman position. The engine
switch board is placed at helmsman position including starter, temperature- and oil-pressure-alarm.
A stainless steel shafting is provided which can run dry 5 minutes when boat is hanging in the
davits. A brass propeller in a special execution is fitted to run in a rudder nozzle.
The fuel tank has sufficient capacity for 25 working hours at 6 knots. It is fitted with filling stud,
inspection cover and fuel valve.
One closed cooling circuit is arranged with keel-cooling-pipes. The cooling system is filled with
anti-freezer – so no system drainage is necessary at low temperatures.
An exhaust system is provided behind the engine to reduce the noise level. The exhaust piping is
heat protected, the outlet is having a goose neck to the transom.
The rudder nozzle with integrated rudder-blade is operated by a bowden wire steering. The rudder
nozzle protects the propeller against impacts while rudder and propeller are protected by a rudder
shoe. An emergency tiller can be easily inserted into the tiller fitting.

Electric system
The electric system is of single wire type at 12V DC. Two gel-type batteries are provided, capacity
60 Ah each, together with battery selection switch. A central switchboard is installed at helmsman
position with fuses, switches and plug for searchlights.
One approved lifeboat light is installed on top of the canopy, inside two water sheltered lights are
providing sufficient illumination.
