Technology has changed us all for the worst
Sometimes I wake up and think I will get so much done today but then I pick up my phone and then my
whole day is gone. This is because many apps are created with a main focus on various colours, and
designs and how they can manipulate the brain into wanting more all the time. Your brain is being
manipulated to go on an addictive app even when doing the smallest tasks e.g homework, chores or just
lying in bed in the morning. The brain is sucked into these apps. Many of these apps include Instagram,
Tiktok, Twitter and Youtube. Tiktok was made in a way in which the damage is unseen. The damage of
TikTok is that screen time will increase dramatically with the layout of the app and how this can
manipulate our brains, even from a young age. With our generation being encouraged to download the
app based on what their friends say, We are unknowingly being sucked into a drug that affects our
brains. This drug is called dopamine which is what happens in the brain and signals for a craving whether
it would be food to social media, Technology is the highest consumer of dopamine. Many studies show
that our brains are in danger with the rise of technology.

This is shown in Animal Farm in many various chapters, Manipulation was used as a form of power.
Snowball taught the animals to read and to write the Animal Farm rules along with some of the
alphabet. Although some animals were not able to memorize most of the alphabet. So Snowball moved
to just memorizing the main line of Animal Farm “FOUR LEGS, GOOD, TWO LEGS BAD” which then all of
the animals were able to memorize. This is technology always manipulating us to believe one thing that
may not be true. With Covid-19 there were a lot of conspiracy theories around the disease. These
conspiracy theories include that the disease is more prominent in the winter than in summer. This then
causes us to believe these conspiracy theories due to being on technology whether it is on our phones,
laptops or TVs we are always on technology. Through the years we have grown to rely on technology, I
have seen many young children, even babies holding phones all the time and not being connected with
the world. A phone is the beginning of an addiction from a young age. But as we get older we use our
phones more associating them with work. My generation is known for having the highest amount of
time out of all the generations, and this is only getting worse. With us as a generation knowing so much
but so little about technology because of how app developers are being more intricate with how they
develop their apps, Just like Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube. Students getting distracted in school is
causing them to think that they can get away with not doing their school work and getting distracted by
social media or video games. But this causes serious consequences with getting people into jobs because
they may not have the knowledge to do basic maths, meaning they have less of an opportunity to do a
job that they love and that they are passionate about, and this is all from technology which is damaging
our brains.

We all know that technology is bad for us but why are so many people addicted to it? There are many
answers to this. Many people may use technology as a distraction from everyday life, or as a distraction
for things that are too hard to complete e.g homework, chores or distancing themselves from someone.
But the effects of this are overlooked with many people saying that it's alright for someone to feel this
way. But many experts say that this is regarding an extremely high level of people committing suicide
every year because of the effects of social media/technology. The reasons for this can vary with many of
us saying that we don’t feel comfortable reaching out and talking to someone about what is happening,

whether it be with social media or just at school. Or with how they just want the problems to go away
magically but that can’t happen. How would it feel to be in a circle of the same constant thing? Wake up,
going on technology devices for nearly 20 hours a day and sometimes we can get nothing done

This is our world, and we are the only ones that can break the technology cycle. It is now or never
