A General Requirements
Personnel involved in protective coating activities has been qualified and SAEP-316,

certified to perfom their task. Para. 5.1

The Vendor shall furnish chemical. analyses for all batches of abrasives

C Surface Preparation
Abrasive blasting shall be carried out only when the steel surface is at SAES-H-001,

least 3°C above the Dew Point. Para. 6.4.3
Compressed air quality is checked at the start and at mid point of each 8
hour shift.
- Attach a piece of blotter or absorbent paper to a clip board, then
- Reduce the nozzle pressure to 388 kpa (50 Psig) SAES-H-001,
C2 - Hold the blotter approximately 45-60 cm in front of the blast nozzle for Para. 6.5.1
one minute.
Blotter shall show no water or oil contamination.
Bare metal was blasted to near white metal cleanliness, SA 2-1/2. for
external and to white metal cleanliness, Sa 3, for internal. The surface
profile shall be 50 to 100 micrometers. For internal girth weld, it should be SAES-H-201,

done by the Contractor, unless otherwise specified in the scope of work. Para. 8.2.3
Pipe bung shall be used to protected shop- applied pipe coating.
The first blasted girth weld in each shift shall be tested for chlorides.
Residual chloride on the surface shall not exceed 20 mg/m² in accordance
SAES-H-201,
with ISO 8502-6. Test one out of each successive 20 girth weld areas..

Note: Chloride test methods needs prior approval in writing by RSA/CSD
Blasting abrasives shall comply with paragraphs 6.3 and 8.2 requirements
of SAES-H-001 and shall contain less than 50 ppm chlorides and sulfates.
SAES-H-201,
They shall be stored in a dry condition and maintained dry during use.

Sand shall not be used as an abrasive. The Vendor shall furnish chemical
analyses for all batches of abrasives used to demonstrate compliance
with these requirements.
The edges of original coatings shall be feathered out 50mm around the
SAES-H-201,
E2 repair area and area shall be free from dust before application of Patch
