HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SUNDAY 1

NAME: JAMES CARL P. SAGANG

Please answer the following guide questions. You have until TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26,
2023 to TURN IN your LEARNING LOG 1.

1. What memorable moments or insights did you gain from your interaction with your
classmates and teacher?

According to Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to
change the world”. Educators, students, families, and communities across the country are returning
to school for a new academic year. Back-to-school season is a time of possibility, hope, and
opportunity to make progress to every student’s dream. Last September 24, 2023, Liceo de
Cagayan University’s Graduate School of the School of Business, Management, and Accountancy
conducted its first in-person class, orientation and onboarding programs to all students.

During that day, I was able to listen and learn from my classmates the reasons behind why
they also enrolled in the program. Personally, it was one of my great experiences inside the
classroom not just because it was my first day as a student in graduate school but because after a
long time, I was able to back inside the classroom excited to learn all of the things that I already
know and those that I did not know. Honestly, I appreciated all of the educators and students who
made extra effort to respond and to cooperate with the school activities that the first class meeting
will be conducted in person. I also respect the reasons behind why some students are unable to
attend the first in-person class due to time and travel constraints, especially those students living
outside the city and region. Nevertheless, professors/educators/officers/students that attended the
first in-person interactions will surely be unable to forget that one of a kind experience. The sharing
of work, life, and academic experience is one of the indicators that we feel comfortable with each
other.

My interactions with my classmates allows me to boost my self confidence, to aim for more
and to increase my outlook in life in pursuing, achieving and finishing this journey. I do hope that all
of the upcoming meetings will be the same or more from those interactions even if it's either in-
person or online class.

2. Describe your first in-person class experience after a period of online learning.

Digital education facilities have enabled many learners to continue pursuing their dream in
academic areas. This opens up formal education for those who can’t leave full-time employment or
other commitments to attend university, allowing them to study and achieve at home and at
convenient times. But we should not forget the essence and importance of in-person class.

Last September 24, 2023, Liceo de Cagayan University with its graduate school of the
School of Business, Management and Accountancy, conducted its first class meeting face-to-face. It
was one of my unforgettable school days because I was able to share my insights and ideas inside
the classroom. Listening to my classmates’ academic, life and work achievements inspired me to
strive and to aim for more. It gave me an idea and a real life scenario of what were the reasons
behind pursuing a master’s degree. I have learned that most of my classmates were also aiming for
a master's degree for professional and career growth. And we shared unique working experiences
that led to enrollment in the graduate school.

My first in-person class experience after a period of online learning was unforgettable
because I was able to absorb what was being shared by my classmates. I was also able to capture
again the beauty of in-person classes where we can directly see actual reactions. Above all, we
should not forget that we were able to conduct such great activity because of our God almighty.

3. How do you feel about the blended learning approach, which combines in-person and
online classes?

Amid the nation’s pandemic recovery, our schools and colleges are striving to ensure
students have the support they need to heal, learn, grow, and emerge stronger than ever before.
New normal practices were adapted and implemented to continue the operations of the industry
while securing and keeping away its workers or employees to any transmissible diseases. One of
these new norms is the acceptance of a blended learning approach.

Blended learning approach is the new normal that every school is adapting to continue with
its goals, vision, and mission. This approach gives several advantages and disadvantages to the
students. Combining in-person and online classes gives more flexibility both for students and
educators. Even though online classes are way more convenient and we cannot argue that the in-
person classes are way more effective. In addition, a blended learning approach aims to combine
the strengths of both traditional and online learning methods in order to give your learners a more
engaging learning experience. Through blended learning training, you’ll take advantage of the best
of both worlds, benefitting both learners and instructors.

Overall, the blended learning approach is now a new trend in the education sector. It gives
additional savings with less physical effort to go to school. It gives extra time to the student to focus
more on the research and readings about the topics. Then, we are learning how to use technology,
especially when we need to do our homework somehow. Lastly, we are able to be at home to bond
with our family after class.

4. Given your experiences with both in-person and online classes, do you have a preference
for one mode of learning over the other? What factors influence your preference, such as
convenience, engagement, or personal circumstances?

With global challenges, educators and learners around the world have had to adapt. In this
new era, learning with friends, classmates and educators had to happen over google classroom,
Zoom, WebEX and other online platforms. Most of the students nowadays are able to experience
classes conducted both in-person and online. And for me, I experienced both modes of learning.

Given the advantages and disadvantages of each mode of learning, some students prefer to
select another approach than the other one. For example, if a student is residing outside the
city/province/region/country, online classes may be more beneficial than in-person classes. On the
other hand, if a student resides within/near the school campus, in-person classes may be more
beneficial and more effective to maximize the learning experience and to have in-person interactions
with teachers and classmates. For online or remote learning to work effectively, the content of the
course being delivered has an impact on the student’s progress, and the content has to be of a very
high standard and tailored to the online learning environment. From my point of view, the education
sector with our authorities must consider other areas that need to be considered if programs should
be implemented in full in-person, full online, and with a blended learning approach. For example, if a
program needed an exposure to several facilities like laboratories or other facilities that had actual
observation and attendance to effectively explain specific and sensitive areas then in-person
meetings must be conducted. But if a program is primarily focused on theories or ideas and does not
require performance and attendance to actual facilities then we must consider implementing that
program in a full online approach. Needless to say, if a program identifies that the performance of a
blended learning approach is necessary then the combined approach must be implemented.

We must not forget that even if we prefer other approaches because of convenience,
personal reasons and other aspects like cost. It should not be a basis if we already compromise the
best results that we can get. My point is that we must implement the best approach to get the best
results. And that is to gain, to learn, to experience, to study and to understand with highest
standards in place.
