COMPUTER LABORATORY RULES

(DO’S AND DON’TS)
DO’s
1. Do not bring any food or drinks in the
computer room.

2. Clean your computer with a soft, dry

cloth.

3. Always keep quiet. Be considerate to

other lab users

4. Report any problems with the

computer to the person in charge.

5. Shut down the computer properly.

DON’TS
1. Do not bring any food or drinks in the
computer room.

2. Do not touch any part of the

computer with wet hands

3. Don’t damage, remove, or disconnect

any labels, parts, cables or
equipment

4. Do not install or download any

software or modify or delete any
system files on any lab computers.

5. If you leave the lab, do not leave

your personal belongings unattended.

1. Keyboard - The keyboard is a prominent example of input devices. When the user presses any key, the
circuit present beneath the keypad gets connected, allowing a small fraction of current to flow through
it; generating an electrical signal that eventually fulfills the command given by the user.

2. Mouse - A mouse is primarily a pointing device that takes the guided motion by the user as an input. It
then translates this mechanical movement to a form that is easily understandable to the computer. The
shiny red or blue light present underneath a computer mouse is used to calculate its position and locate
the coordinates according to which the cursor moves.
3. Scanners are everywhere, from the fingerprint scanner on your phone to the document scanner on your
office desk, and to the bar code scanner. Scanners make use of casting light on a particular pattern to
develop a scanned image. Scanners are input devices that take real-life data, mostly pictures or
documents, and convert them into much more complicated machine language. This complicated version
is then used to make digital copies of the input data.

4. Microphone There are various types of microphones available in the market. For example, condenser
mic, carbon granule mic, ribbon mic, etc. All of them have their respective working principles. Typically,
a microphone converts the vibrational energy to electrical energy. This electrical energy is fed to a
computer which produces output through an output device after necessary processing.

5. Camera After capturing photos and videos on a digital camera, it can be connected to a computer, and
the data can be stored for years. A picture in real life is easy to interpret. When a picture is transferred
to the computer hard disk, it gets converted to binary or machine language. Hence, a camera is an input
device.

6. Magnetic Ink Character Reader (MICR) Magnetic Ink Character Reader is the input device that is used to
read the characters of MICR code that you generally see at the bottom of a cheque in which it consists
of the check number, account number, and bank routing code.

Examples of output devices

1. Computer Speaker allow users to listen to audio that electronic devices provide. Computers can
generate audio in a number of ways, such as playing a locally stored file or streaming music from over
the internet.
2. Headset perform a similar function as computer speakers in that they allow users to listen to audio from
an electronic device. Headset typically connect to a single device through either a wired or wireless
connection
3. A monitor is a display device that users often pair with desktop computers. A monitor connects to the
desktop computer to provide users with visual output. The computer device generates a user interface
through the operating system, and the monitor allows the user to see it.
4. A printer takes an image from a computer device and displays it on a paper document. It provides the
user with a physical copy of the document or image they are viewing on their desktop computer, laptop
or smartphone.
5. A projector is a visual display output device. It takes an image from an electronic device and displays it
on a screen or wall. For example, a user can connect a projector to a computer or DVD player to display
movies on a large screen

Example of Computer Storage

Floppy disk

It is a type of storage device which is used in the personal computer on a personal basis. Floppy disk is generally
used with plastic and is made secure by using protective cases.

Hard disk

It’s a hard disc drive (HDD) that uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve data. It’s a non-volatile device that
stores data that could be changed or deleted an infinite number of times.

Pen drive

This is also called USB since it has flash memory and a built-in USB interface. These devices can be immediately
connected to our desktops and laptops, allowing us to read data into them even more quickly and efficiently.
