Calapan city is a 3rd class component city and capital of the province of oriental Mindoro,
Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 145,786 people. It is also the center of
commerce, industry, transport, communication, religious activities and education in the entire province of
Oriental Mindoro.
The city is primarily served by the Oriental Mindoro Medical Center, which is also the province's
largest hospital. There are also several private hospitals in the city, including the medical mission group
hospital and health services cooperative, the region's only tertiary level hospital, maria Estrella general
hospital, Santa maria village hospital, hospital of the holy cross, and the Luna-Goco medical center.

TARGETED USERS
The designers wanted to provide a hospital that will target users mainly from Calapan City and its
neighboring municipalities. The proposed hospital will serve as a meeting point for patients coming from
the northern and southern parts of Oriental Mindoro.

Calapan City's population was 145,786 according to the 2020 census. Using the 3:1000 ratio,
where 3 beds equal to 1000 people, the hospital requires at least 438 beds.

Motorized tricycles are a common mode of transport and jeepneys and vans served as
transportation options to other municipalities within oriental Mindoro which passes through the mostly
concreted provincial road spanning the province. The city also has an airport, the Calapan airport,
classified as a secondary airport and is used for general aviation handling mostly small planes and
choppers with regular trips from Ninoy Aquino international airport (NAIA)

Iloilo City must develop its own hospital amid the inadequacies in the public health care system
which were aggravated by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Former senator Franklin
Drilon, who supported House Bill No. 10464 that established the Iloilo City Hospital, said that it was
important that the Iloilo City government would be the one to own, operate, and manage the city hospital,
which broke ground on Friday.
The lack of proper facilities led to the inadequacy of existing hospitals and other healthcare
facilities to provide sufficient care, especially to COVID-19 patients.

According to the provincial government of Quezon Province, the pandemic revealed gaps in the
public health system which needed to be properly addressed. In the case of Quezon province, there is a
pressing need to establish a hospital which will expand and augment the reach of the constrained hospital
care system. There's a need for a hospital that would be center of crisis response and shall maintain
reliable and well-trained pool of health specialist and medical professionals responsive to the needs of all
of citizens in remote and rural areas.

As Lipa City makes waves and creates a niche in the cultural, economic, political, and religious
aspects of development and progress, there is no doubt that we are also stamping a mark at the forefront
of medical services in Batangas. Majority of patients from nearby towns and cities seek medical attention
at many health facilities in Lipa, especially during those trying times of the COVID – 19 pandemics.
Lipa’s location in the province is strategic; access is likewise easy with the opening of major road
arteries and road networks. In addition, with the establishment of huge hospital buildings, came the
cutting-edge medical equipment and facilities that cater to major illnesses and medical problems.
