Dan: Hello?
Grace: Hi, Dan. It's Aunt Grace here.
Dan: Oh, hi, Aunt Grace.
Grace: How's it going? Is everything ready for the big party tonight?
Dan: Well, not yet, but we're working on it! Everybody's doing housework right now!
Grace: Everybody? And Grandma?
Dan: No, no, not Grandma. She's in the living room watching TV as usual.
Grace: Of course… And what are you doing?
Dan: You won't believe it… I'm washing the windows!
Grace: But you hate washing windows! Anyway, I want to speak to your mom.
Can she come to the phone?

Dan: Let me see… No, she can’t. She's out in the garden. She's watering the plants.
Grace: Can your dad come to the phone?
Dan: Well, he's in the kitchen with Millie. He's cooking and she's doing the dishes.
Well, she’s trying to do the dishes anyway!
Grace: Your dad is cooking? Oh dear! Why don't you order some food?
Dan: Well, Aunt Grace, it's too late now. Dad wants to make something special for tonight.
But still, we have a lot to do… Things are crazy around here.
Grace: I'll tell you what… I’ll come over and give you a hand.

LISTENING TRANSCRIPT
Radio Host Good evening and welcome to "Your health." Tonight we're going to talk about jet lag.
I have with me Dr. Amanda Sears, who has recently published a book called “Healthy
Traveling.” Good evening, Dr. Sears.
Dr. Sears Hello.
RH So, tell us, doctor, what exactly is jet lag?
Dr. Sears It's what travelers often feel when they cross time zones. When you live in California,
for example, and you fly to New York, it's three hours later there. That means that to get there,
you've crossed three time zones. You can change your watch, but your body needs time to
change. This can cause different problems.
RH Do all travelers get jet lag?
Dr. Sears Well, one study showed that about 94% of travelers have problems when they cross time
zones. For example, 50% of international travelers get stomach problems.
RH Are stomach problems the most common symptom of jet lag?
Dr. Sears Well, they're just one of the symptoms. Other symptoms include headaches, sore throat and
earaches, to name just a few. But the most common symptom is sleeping problems. People
have trouble falling asleep or getting up in the morning after long flights.
RH This must be even worse for children, right?
Dr. Sears Actually, that's not true. Jet lag is worse for adults than for children. You see, it’s easier for
children, especially children under three, to change time zones.
RH So, what can the rest of us who are over three do to avoid getting jet lag?
Dr. Sears Well, you can always stay at home (ha ha ha ). Seriously, now, you should make sure that you
get a good night's sleep before your flight.
RH But I've heard that it's better not to sleep the night before and sleep on the plane.

Copyright © MM Publications
The English hub 2A – KEY TO TESTS

Dr. Sears That's not the best thing to do. On the plane you should actually change your watch to the time
of the city where you're going. Sleep on the plane when it's time to sleep in your arrival city.
Stay awake, if it isn't …
RH And what about the flu-like symptoms? (fade out)
