Team Control 1. It occurs when a player of the team is holding or dribbling a live ball or when
team-mates are passing the ball.
Illegal Dribble 2. A dribbling violation occurs when a player stops dribbling and then attempts to
dribble again or if a player attempts to dribble the ball with 2 hands
Blocking/Illegal Screen 3. This usually occurs when a player fails to gain or maintain a legal
guarding position and stops the player with the body or legs.
Illegal Use of Hands 4. Occurs when the defensive player is in a guarding position and his hands
or arms are placed upon and remains in contact with an opponent with or without the ball, to
impede his movement.
Holding 5. Illegal personal contact with an opponent that interferes with his freedom of
movement. This contact can occur with any part of the body
Personal Foul 6. Illegal contact on an opponent whether the ball is live or dead.
Charging 7. When the player with the ball forcibly pushes (or moves) into an opponent’s torso
who is in a legal guarding position.
Goal Tending 8. It occurs during a shot for field goal when a player touches the ball while it is
completely above the level of the ring
Defaults 9. A team with less than two players left on the court defaults the game. If the
opposing team is ahead at the time, that score is the final result.
Technical Foul 10. It is given for unsportsmanlike conduct or other infraction. This can range
from fighting to arguing with the official.

Why rules in basketball are essential and need to be follow during the game?

 Rules are essential and need to be followed because if the other person doesn't follow
the rules, they should suffer the consequences. Hence, rules define the game and
knowing the rules makes you a better player. It provide an agreement of understanding
to competition. In Basketball, rules define what is allowed or not allowed to occur
during situations on and off the court. Rules govern anything from wearing proper
uniforms to how to keep score during games of different levels of competition. It
matters to ensure player safety, integrity of the game, and in an attempt to create as
fair a competition as possible.
