EXERCISE NO. 10
BLOOD VESSELS
GIO: To know what blood vessels are and how they transport blood throughout the body.
SIO:
-There are three kinds of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries. Each of these plays a very specific
role in the circulation process. Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart. They're tough on
the outside but they contain a smooth interior layer of epithelial cells that allows blood to flow easily.
2. Explain how exchange nutrients and waste products between food and tissue cells & interstitial
fluid occur.
-Exchange of Gases, Nutrients, and Waste Between Blood and Tissue Occurs in the Capillaries. Capillaries
are tiny vessels that branch out from arterioles to form networks around body cells. The capillaries
absorb carbon dioxide and other waste products from the tissues and then flow the deoxygenated blood
into the veins.
3. Define pulse.
- In medicine, a pulse represents the tactile arterial palpation of the cardiac cycle by trained fingertips.
The pulse may be palpated in any place that allows an artery to be compressed near the surface of the
body, such as at the neck, wrist, at the groin, behind the knee, near the ankle joint, and on foot.
- Blood pressure is measured as two numbers: Systolic blood pressure (the first and higher number)
measures pressure inside your arteries when the heart beats. Diastolic blood pressure (the second and
lower number) measures the pressure inside the artery when the heart rests between beats.
