Counting

1 Number of integers within a range is not given by taking the difference of the upper and lower limits.

For example,

The number of integers from 2 to 10 is not 10 - 2 = 8.

It is (10 - 2) + 1, as shown.

lower limit 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 upper limit

Counting
2 Proper understanding of nomenclature is important to solve such counting questions correctly.

• Inclusive - integers specified should be included in the count.

• For the term "between" - the integers at the end should not be included in the count, unless
specified otherwise.
o Note: For the term "from" - the integers at the end are usually always included in the count,
unless specified otherwise.
